Wood box

I'm gathering ideas for a wooden box. MDF , 3-ply or 5-ply? Which provides the best sound? How do you waterproof one? I have my design pretty much worked out. I was thinking about a removable lid secured with screws and then siliconed around the edge.

I built my first out of 1/4" mdf and it works pretty well. I've had it for quite a while and it still jams pretty well. Waterproofing????? I'm not really sure if thats going to be attainable. I painted mine w/ a couple of coats of flat black latex paint and also did the silicone around all the corners and edges to help keep water out. I've had no problems w/ mud and water getting splashed onto it pretty heavily but I wouldn't let it get submerged.

Yes, if its gonna possibly get submerged! I have a fiberglass one in the works but no job= no play $$

So you can't put on a couple coats of rhino liner and silicone and it still not be waterproof around the sides and bottom? I like the removeable top idea. It's easy access to the electrical.

The only way to waterproof MDF is to use a gallon or more of resin to attempt to seal it.  We have tried with minimal results, so we do not use MDF in any of our enclosures.

i would say get the box made of thin plywood, then take and fiberglass over it for water protection and strngth. if you fiberglass the whole thing it will be completely sealed.

I made mine out of wood. I just bondo over the whole box. Pain in the **** but havnt got water in yet. By the way have not completly submerged.
