propane can be used on gas engines but you need a higher compression piston to take advantage of it. Alot of rock crawlin trucks use propane so their trucks can opperate at extreme angles without stalling.

just incase someone misunderstood my question i want to know if they think the nitrus will work on a little alcohol engine like a top fuel dragser just a briggs and stratton size. get your information right yes propain is a power adder for a dieseal motor and a gas engine can be converted by a faraly simple intake modifactions. I was was not asking about that i was asking about nitrous on a ALCOHOL engine.  sorry for miss spells been drinking

i don't see why it won't work on alcohol engines all nitrous does is add more oxygen so you can add more fuel  then you get more hp

Alcohol is ideal to run with notrous, it keeps your motor alot cooler, and on two strokes it builds more power and is easier to tune, its not as great as everyone says on 4 strokes........it doesnt add that much power and is hard to tune

the worst thing about it is you use so much compared to gas or race gas

ok i have used nitrous for a while now and its been on every vehicle i have owned. for a proper nitrous system you need solenoids to open and close the lines to allow nitrous to flow through. the way you are doing this can and in time will burn a hole in the piston. you need more fuel, period. a lean spike for 2 seconds can and will harm the engine. co2 is carbon dioxide, n20 is nitrous oxide, there is a difference. propane is ran in diesels not gas engines. the air needle is not an efficient jet for a nitrous system and using small bottles isnt the right way to do it. nitrous runs efficiently off of bottle pressure, if the bottle is cold you will have low pressure, hot and you will have high pressure. you want to run any nitrous system with the bottle pressure at 950-1050 psi for maximum performance. this way that is listed does and will work, but be warned you can harm your engine by doing so. I agree with everything you said except for the propane only running in diesel engines.  Propane is run in gas engines also and is becoming more popular everyday.

i know this is a little late but i am just getting into this thread and i happen to know a thing or two bout nitrous.....mainly because i run it own my mach

i have a different tune and for when i spray nitrous...on that tune i have the timming retarded and i have to run a colder plug and have more fuel going into the motor

i run a dry shot on my car and it is safer to prvent blowin the intake off and all the other stories you hear....dry shot safer than wet

so long story short more is not better retard timming more fuel and lower compression...and dont hold it out

intersting thread none the less

1) i have a different tune and for when i spray nitrous...on that tune i have the timming retarded and i have to run a colder plug and have more fuel going into the motor

2) i run a dry shot on my car and it is safer to prvent blowin the intake off and all the other stories you hear....dry shot safer than wet

with statement 1) i agree that you need to do that on a gas burner of what ever size.  especialy with EFI vehicls the timing and fuel will be deliverd with read outs from the o2 censer!

and 2) this is true if you have a EFI or run your carb fat (rich) to start with.

i have "helped" tune n2o cars on the dyno, 2 degree's timing retard for every 50HP shot..........i have yet to see a 50 shot on an atv.  i'm ttrying to locate it, but there was a kit out there that had a "tube" type thing included in the kit to either propell the n20 threw the carb eliminating the need for a auxilary fuel pump.  i think i saw it on a sand drag web site or something.

so far i have a gas/liquid electric valve (same as n2o solenoid), and a 4-7psi fuel pump, as much -2 or -4 nylon/steel braided line w/ fittings that i'll need.  i'm slowly piecing together the components..........i don't see paying $600 for a 10-15 shot for an ATV.  the parts can be pieced together for much less (ie what i'm doing now).  if a 150-250 shot for a car only costs about 3-500, why should an ATV kit (for single or twin cylinder) cost upwords of $700.........

so far:
4-electric on/off valves (2 for ATV 2 for mud truck) $15
4-7 psi inline fuel pump $7 @ napa
-braided line and fittings are JIC and nylon/steel woven over high press hose $25

some of the other parts you can find off "scam"bay out of broken n20 sets........thats where i'm heading, hahaha

Those are a vent that was connected to my air box.  I found that if it got clogged then my quad would immediately die.  Since I mostly ride in mud I decided to give that one vent several routes to air so it would not get clogged.

RE: update on $30 nitrous setup, RESULTS!! - Monday, August 27, 2007 2:17 PM ( #200 )
Interesting thread.

I've run nitrous, I've even run it on a quad.  Great stuff.

I can answer questions if you have any.  Let me first add my "advice".

Nitrous is dangerous in the same way a sport car is dangerous.  It's so easy to push it a little further, and a little further, and a little further.  It's safe in moderation.  For this cheap kit, it looks perfectly fine.  I can only see a few minor issues.

Some of the "experts" are saying that you'll burn your piston, you need to add fuel, ect ect.   Naw, not true, as long as you keep the levels low, and keep the time on the button to a minimum.  Yes, it's lean, but lean only creates extra heat.  If you keep the time on the button to a minimum, the heat won't build up enough to cause harm.

A key point is KEEPING LEVELS LOW!!!  A couple posts above, one person says the power is enough to lift the front tires up.  That's NOT safe, too much power for this style of kit.  That kind of power is fine it was a proper wet kit injecting both nitrous and fuel, but not for a little kit like this that only injects nitrous.

For a simple 2-3hp, under 2 seconds at a time, and no detonation, you're fine.

I don't think so, because even starter fluid needs AIR to burn.  Air is our limiting factor, not fuel.  If it was simply a matter of more fuel (any type), we would just use larger jets in our carburetors to achieve that.

I've had this setup on my 300 for a while now.  It's not "throw you back in the seat" power, but does work good for the occational tap of the button when you start to bog in thick mud.  The RPMs will jump right back up where you want them.  I only tap mine, never hold the button down.

It's a good idea but be carefull.  Spraying nitrous alone will add power because it causes a lean condition.  If you spray a 20 shot worth of nitrous in a motor but no extra fuel it will feel like a 2 shot but be running very very lean.
