You have to remove the clutch cover to check the cam timing .. The ignition timing can be checked with a timing light but it not adjustable ...

thought it was on the stator side not clutch side, might be wrong.

I pulled both sides. Clutch side. Chain is very loose. I'll be ordering a new chain and guide tomorrow. Any tips on getting the clutch off? I talked with the parts folks today about my service manual. Back ordered, maybe it will show up when I'm finish the job and my bikes back running.

The crank timing mark is on the flywheel "stator side". to check the timing mark on the camshaft you can remove the water pump and see it it's not that easy to see it but it can be done w/o removing the head.

Is it the cam chain thats loose, or the oil pump drive chain? you can manually adjust the cam chain tensioner to take up the slack. If it's the oil pump chain that's loose you have to replace it.

Can chain very loose with the tensioner all the way out. The tensioner is automatic ( spring ). There is a plug on the stator side with a T on the fly wheel. Is that the crank mark?
