briggs motor on 3 wheeler

i have an older junk suzuki 3 wheeler sittin, and i was thinkin about uses for it. I'm thinking of putting a 5hp briggs and stratton with centrifical clutch and put smaller tires on it (maybe dirt bike tires if i can figure that out) so that it can turn them easier than the wide tires. as far as i can tell the brakes work and a motor is about $200 new. Sound like a plan just for a sodid ground cruising trike?

well im poor and i want to use a cheap motor. and i was also thinking using for mud runs with tallest narrowest motorcycle tires i can get on the rear, but i think i would be limited on front tire size

a 5hp briggs is an ok engine but your tire size is going to be very restricted.... anything over a 16 inch diameter drive wheel coupled to a 5hp briggs isn't gonna have alot of gumption... regardless of width. i would strongly reccommend not going any lower than a 10... with a 10hp you could probably turn the stockers... it wouldn't be any speed demon but at least it would get you there and have a little bit of power.

without a transmission i would use a centrifical clutch, which sucks the power. theres no other way to hook it up is there? unless put the sprocket right on the crank shaft like a go cart i had. lol had to start it with the tires off ground then kick them down and take off in a burnout every time
maybee ill look for a larger motor because i want skinny tires on it

ya i could but they are about $300 last time i got one, for the smallest and that would add more complications, ill go with the centrifical since i want simple build. and dont need much speed or power out of this. i found an older 8 hp briggs that runs i think ill use

YOU ADD A MAKUNNI CARB A .500+LIFT CAM(the modified classes run a bigger cam yet) A SET OF LARGER VALVES AND DO SOME PORTEING WORK AD AN ARC HEAD AND A STROKER KIT HAVE IT ALL BALLANCED AND WALA YOU HAVE YOUR SELF A 5HP BRIGGS TURNING AROUND 8000rpm AND CRANKING OUT ALMOST 40hp,,, OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO WELD THE LIFTER VALLEY AND THEN HAVE NEW GUIDES INSTALLED AND IF YOU REALY WANT TO CRANK OUT SOME HORSE FROM A 5hp BRIGGS JUMP INTO A BLOCKZILLA BLOCK FOR YOUR FOUNDATION THEN GO AS WILD AS YOUR POCKET BOOK WILL LET YOU..

    i had the same idea with a 1996 polaris sportsman 400 4x4.
the engine is toast.. the tranny and running gear is all complete...
thought about trying to stuff a brigs in there somewhere.. the hole running gear operates on chain drive...

i actually have a 3wheeler that came from the factory kinda like what you are wanting to do.  It's an Avenger BigFoot that came with a 8hp tecumseh with a torque converter setup.  reminds me...i need to get that thing running again!
