best winch for 420
what would be the best winch and winch size for my 420? i would like it to be able to handle the four-wheeler, me and a deer when bogged. we have always used warn but i heard viper is pretty good, it will be mounted on the moose bumper.

I'd go with a Viper Max 3500 - 4000. Cheap, good warranty, great customer service etc. What more can you ask for

WARN RT2500. I love mine and its never let me down. I did have a Viper on my last bike (420) and it did ok but it would burn up solenoids to much. The company would send me a new one which was nice but after the 5th one I got tired of changing them out. These new WARN rt and xt series winches are excellent. I've gotten the grizzly in a few bad holes and it never checked up while pulling it out.

I have never ever had good things come out of a warn winch.
I have a viper 5k wide spool on my ranger. Gods honest truth I cannot seem to stop that thing. Here a while back a rzr 570 w/ 29.5 ol2's and my ranger were stuck side by side pointing opposite directions. Hooked my viper up through a snatch block on a tree then to the rear of the rzr. This is no lie, after hooking the snatch block about 5' up the tree, it started pulling BOTH of us out. Then the suction broke on te ranger and it was free. I got onto solid ground and continued to winch the 570 out. I am thoroughly impressed with all the binds my viper had gotten me out of.

The vipers are good winches, no doubt. And strong. I just got burnt out on changing solenoids.

IMHO, the Viper's are mechanically as good, if not better than the Warn. And the price is realistic, too. If you're gonna get one, October is the month to do so - 10% off on the Elite series! If you're interested, call me at ext. #6047 and I'll make it happen for you!

KaJunBoy, the solenoid issue seems to be old news. I believe it to be corrected. Go look at the direct head to head comparision I just made for "team_shine" between the middle of the line Viper Max and the top of the line Viper Elite. My thread is found in this section of the forum. Both are great winches. Call Cale to order either one.

For the price, you can't beat a Viper. I got 3-4 warns in pieces that went out on me. I will admit I tore my viper apart to clean it up good and regrease. Its only a classic, so its the cheapest of the group. It does what I need. I can buy 3 Vipers compared to 1 Warn price wise.

I had the warm 3000 and if you run bigger tires you will rub. I had 28 outlaws on mine and I was always tearing lugs when I turned to the right.

My ViperMax 3000 has plenty of clearance from my Bighorns on ITP SS212 wheels. I don't think bigger tires would make enough of a difference to matter. This is at full lock...

My Arctic Cat came with a Warn 2500. I replaced it with a Viper 3500 (classic). It will rip my frame in half before it stops pulling. Only when it's not spooled correctly will it give me issues, but that's not the winches fault.

I think I made the decision to go with the viper 3500. I just put 25" bighorns on the bike, I'm pretty sure its not going to hit, being there 8" wide up front. how does the viper hook up with the moose bumper? I see the pre holes drilled out, I just want to make sure it will work and look good.
