Why not change weights? - Monday, March 08, 2010 6:22 PM ( #1 )
I have an 09 750i   Going to put 28" tires on it. I ride the trail alot but don' t ever pass up the mud. I have purchased an epi clutch kit that i am second guessing after reading some of the past posts. The kit I have has a gold primary, an almond secondary, and 56gram weights. I have not installed it yet and the dealer said they would take it back if i decide to go another route. It seems to me that most people just change the springs and not the weights. Why is this?  Please set me straight on the right set up. I don't know anyone local to get advise from. You wouldn't believe how many times i have to explain to people what my snorkles are!!!  LOL    Thanks in advance for being patient with my rookie questions

Well most people change just the spring to only hold the belt better and not worry about tuning there clutch.Changing your weights get you more out of the clutch vs just changing the springs.

Depends on what tire your going to run. If it's a heavier tie like mudzillzas (not the lighter  zillas) I would run a green secondary with a maroon primary. For a lighter set of 28's (eg. mudlites) I would run a almond secondary and maroon primary. 56 gram EPI weights are good weights for that size tire.  I have never run a gold primary but from the chart it seem to have allot of stall for running 28's.

Thanks for the info. I will keep the almond secondary and the 56g weights but switch out the gold primary for a maroon one

Im only going to be running 28" zillas the gold might be a bit much from what people are telling me. Im going to try the maroon primary and see how that works.

I thought EPI weights are supposed to be heavier? I posted a while back that mine was in the 60's and someone over from MIMB was telling me they wieghed theirs and they was around 50
