Looks great.  Only problem with shining one up is now you won't want to clamp something in it and then beat on it.

This is true but it was enjoyable to return this old slab or iron back to good condition which i hope will last another 75 years. I may try to find another old vise and start over. I really would like to find a large Monarch vise to refurb next.

88 honda 300 frame- 350d motor with a 69% reduction, small lift and 31 wides, dual 2.5'' glasspacks, 3.75'' body lift, locker, 450 foreman clutch still dont run

Well the large Reed vise is prolly worth a few hundred dollars but its usefulness is limited to huge stuff. Selling it would be tuff since shipping would be a pain and expensive. But yeah it would just be a pretty cool boat anchor

I was able to pick up this piece today. The guy i bought it from said his father bought it brand new and never took it out of the box. However he kept it in a leaky barn and the vise suffered a bit but i couldnt pass it up. Its a brand new Wilton 400s Bullet still in the box(the cadillac of vises). Its never been bolted up or used but the barns leaky roof took a bit of a toll on it. I had to give $175 for this thing but its retail cost is $550. A little elbow grease and she'll be good as new! Dont know if im just gonna do a quick flip on this one or keep it. Hmmmmm.

Big stuff like axles, pressing in wheel bearings etc.  How much did he want for it?  Never hurts to have several sizes!

He wants $200 for it. One of the balls on the slide handle is missing and the other end is welded back on. The jaws are in "ok" shape. The only problem with these old Reed vises is that the jaws are not replaceable.

Would still be good for function.  Probably not worth doing a full restore on it.  Let him sit on it for awhile and offer him $100.

$100 was my initial offer on it and then he said $200. Hes not hurting for cash. He owns the local parts store and a closed machine shop. He also owns the local bakery and candy store as well as most of the uptown properties.

If you have a gas mig a air sander and a 1/2'' nut you can easily weld and shape a new ball on the handle.

95 Honda 300 Fourtrax-big red rear, 2 inch snorkel, 6 inch lift, 8 inch stretch, 3 inch body lift, 32 silverbacks, locker, M4 motorcycle exhaust, 424, 54% reduction, EPI Economy,

88 honda 300 frame- 350d motor with a 69% reduction, small lift and 31 wides, dual 2.5'' glasspacks, 3.75'' body lift, locker, 450 foreman clutch still dont run

98 honda 300 4x4- all stock for now might get 450 gears and a 317 someday.

Yeah you could but i dont have any of those things and if i were to buy this big boat anchor it would be to resell it and welding a large nut onto the handle may devalue it even more when someone else could have purchased it and fixed they way they see fit. My fab skills aint really up to par. They are satisfactory for hidden work but not for work that needs to be seen :(

Yeah but then id be putting excess money into a vise that was only worth so much. I would have to get the vise for $100 to even consider the vise jaw guy for anothe handle.

Oh yeah i forgot to show you guys this. Since the jaws on my Parker vise were mostly flat,i ordered these aluminum Lisle vise jaw pads with magnetic strips on them to go over top of the flat jaws for more grip. They look like theyre gonna work awesome and gonna crush some stuff up!
