Sportsman 570

Anyone running one of these yet? How are they holding up? Considering getting one, waiting to see what issues they have. Hopefully its as jam up as the rzr. Would like to make a water bug out of it.

My brother just picked one up this weekend. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

I can report back after he gets some miles on it.

Well things aren't off to a very good start. My brother was prepping for our deer hunt next week and went out to fire up the 570 and it won't start. Sounds like it is getting fuel, maybe no spark. He is going to tear into it and see if it is getting any spark at all. The bike has maybe 20 miles on it, he took it on a couple bow hunts.

Sounds like the 570 RZR's have issues with fouling plugs

Anyone have links to a manual for one of these?

I quickly looked one over at my dealer, from what I seen the battery placement is terrible. They just set the battery on top of the skid plate in front of the motor, looks unfinished, like they didn't know where to put it.

Only downfall on 570 moters is the fouling plugs.. they don't like to be run for short periods and turned off.. example (moving out of garage then turn back of and set for a bit) I think they are gna be awesome machines.. I know my rzr is.. seen the sportsman selling for $5500.. no PS model..

Kind of mind blowing this day in age that they are having issues with a 4 stroke fouling plugs.

From the ride I took no it last weekend, it felt like it had good power and his does have power steering which is really nice. My next bike will have that option.

We swapped out the junk plug (Champion in this case) with an NGK replacement before heading out to hunt this weekend and the 570 never missed a beat. It pulls hard, seems very quick and had plenty of torq. I was able to easily wheelie in the bean field, actually it caught me by suprise the first time I did it.

Local dealer said they had a number of them come back in with the same issue and the NGK plug seemed to fix it. We will see long term how it does.

Here is a shot of the pair...

Seems like the battery would be all over the place. Maybe you could relocate it.

I'd really like to ride one though.

    Re:Sportsman 570 2013/11/27 09:07:05 (permalink)
I didn't get a chance to put too many miles on it so I can't do a fair comparison with my 550 H1 but here are some of my intial thoughts...

    Starting with the good...

    - Power - this thing makes jobs of power for a mid-sized machine. With better tires, I think it will wheelie with easy. Traction seemed to be the only limiting factor on getting the front end of the ground. However I will say the Carlie tires that came stock on it, blow my stock Duro's out of the water.

    - The machine feels very nimble but I really think the power steering is a big factor here, my 550 H1 does not have power steering

    - Quick - it pulls hard out of the gate. I hit 52 mph in the bean field after we made a few passes to make sure there wasn't any holes or anything else that we didn't want to come across unexpectedly. My brother hit 55 mph. I've read where someone said they had theirs into the upper 60's - after riding one, I find that hard to believe but low 60's probably isn't out of the question on a good smooth road. I've hit 62 on my 550 H1 on a long straight road, probably never do that again. with the stock bias tires.

    - The thing has a really nice set of headlights on it for the folks that ride at night.

    The bad...

    - Fouled spark plug after 6 miles - 6 **** miles! Replaced the Champion with an NGK and didn't have any issues over the weekend but there is a feeling of unreliability there now for my brother that the machine will have to earn back over time.

    - Battery placement - several guys have mentioned this already but it's crazy where they located it on top side of the belly skid. It sure seems like the entire machine was build and ready to roll off the line and someone realized there wasn't a battery installed yet.  It's going to be filthy and under water a lot - a relocation might be in order.

    - After one weekend of use, my brother realized the stock racks are worthless (something I had brought up before he bought it). For the '14's they did put a little metal tubing in a few spots but the points to strap things down is very limited. Not sure if anyone will every make usable replacement racks for it, if not, we may have to make our own.

I'm not real sure how the Polaris AWD system works but my 550 H1 has a locker up front which is nice, the racks are more duarble and usable and I really like the fact that my Cat has a 2" receiver build into it, the Polaris comes with an 1 1/4" receiver, so at least it has one but it's nice to be able to use the same accessories in my Jeep without having to have an adaptor.

More to come - next time we are out, we are going to line them up side by side in the field and run them for a little comparison.

Polaris AWD works fantastic...but some prefer the control offered by Arctic/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawi and one cannot begrudge them that point. And a rack extender works wonders, just FYI. Loved mine on my 500.

polaris AWD is always locked into true 4wd all the time when the AWD switch is engaged. polaris has the best AWD system. no need to lock the diff and all that mess buy the time on most atvs when you need to lock the diff you are already stuck.

The battery on the 570 is in the exact same location as the battery on the X2, have not heard of any issues with them.  They are in a far better location than on the 400/500, which is in the left rear wheel well, that is a poor location.

    Thanks,
    Will
