I just sold a 420 Rancher. My take is, FB is just like craigslist, except you get to see the profile of the person who is going to show up, try to kill or kidnap you, and then try to steal and sell your liver.
First off, on bcoms scammer, I like to mess with them. I like to string them along for days, sometimes weeks. I find it entertaining. I've gotten several hexes and curses put on me by scammers with very unique accents and/ or a very unique dialect of the English language.
As for FB vs Craigslist, you still get the same "Wat's ur bottom dollor?" or "Wat's the lest ull take?" crap from people who have no intention of buying an item unless you'll sell it for 1/4 of market value. You still get the "Will u trad for a 92 grand am with a blown hed gasket?" even though your ad says "NO TRADES NO TRADES NO TRADES" as the first line. The only difference is, on FB you can see what the methbilly looks like who is sending you the above messages.
Every time I start to think it would be a good thing if a meteor wiped out the human race, someone comes along and restores my faith in humanity. That said, I think I'm done buying bikes to fix up and sell. I'm just not a wheeler-dealer type of guy. I'm too old to deal with it nowadays. Don't have the patience.
Back in my day, if a man had a price listed, if you thought he was WAY high you just kept walking. If he was in your ballpark you made an offer, and he either declined or counteroffered until you reached a mutually beneficial agreement. You didn't offer 1/2 of his posted price. That's just rude, especially when you both know the ballpark figure on the market price.
Now you get "Wat's the lest you take on teh racher?" and I usually respond with "What's the most you'll pay?" just because the idea that I'm going to throw out my best deal right off the bat is idiotic and undeserving of a serious response. Sadly, that's most of what you get on FB and Craigslist these days, and even worse, is a good representative of what we have become as a society.
After this last wheeler I'm going to either part them out or keep them. **** I might set one on fire and shoot it, because THAT would be preferable to dealing with the mouth breathers that have been sending me emails and FB messages about this last Rancher I had "for sell".
