Re: Operation Big Bore 2016/10/30 22:41:27 (permalink)
i have been contemplating on getting a 355 vs a 380 and idk yet i have a 317 i need to have over bored and freshened up before i worry about really needing the bigegr motor and besides i may decide instead of the bigger 2 valve motor i may just want to make a big boy 4 valve motor

95 Honda 300 Fourtrax-big red rear, 2 inch snorkel, 6 inch lift, 8 inch stretch, 3 inch body lift, 32 silverbacks, locker, M4 motorcycle exhaust, 424, 54% reduction, EPI Economy,

380, 450 clutch, 350D clutch cover all waiting to be installed.

88 honda 300 frame- 350d motor with a 69% reduction, small lift and 31 wides, dual 2.5'' glasspacks, 3.75'' body lift, locker, 450 foreman clutch still dont run

98 honda 300 4x4- all stock for now might get 450 gears and a 317 someday.

Got back at er today. Here is where I'm at. New EBC DRC & Springs installed, HL Outlaw Springs Installed, new DID Cam Chain in.

Debating on weather to wait and replace the kick start & reverse seal before closing er up...

I dropped the head and new valve springs off at machine shop. Getting valve seals, & seats done.

Re: Operation Big Bore 2016/11/12 16:46:24 (permalink)
Today I changed the two case seals. Got er all together, kick start is good, shifts thru gears but super stiff. So I adjusted the Clutch which made a difference. Will the EBC DRC stiffer springs cause it to go into gear harder??

I mean I know the best way is to take it for a drive, but that won't happen for a little bit as the motor isn't fully together yet..

I'm really leaning towards the clutch adjustment upon driving it....

yes the ebc kit makes it harder to shift. Due to higher spring pressure.

Re: Operation Big Bore 2016/11/27 09:21:39 (permalink)
Well I've made MAJOR progress last couple of days... Got the motor all together & torqued up nicely. Had the 300ex exhaust to the shop twice to tweak it so it didn't hit the frame. I also had to miter the joint where it seats into motor. No exhaust leaks. I may have to play with the A/F screw in the carb. Weird thing... I have NO dash lights & starter won't work. Hooked up the battery and fires right up with the kick start.... I'll have to figure that out...

Thx 00_NUTT!

Figured out the wiring issue. I had the connections on the relay/battery incorrect. Swapped a few around and good to go! New Executioners showed up today as well. So hopefully I can get it fully back together now!

Man it looks good. On the plastics you can actually wet sand with real light paper and buff them. They will come out with a show room shine.

That's what I was thinking. With my old quad I was at sea level. Now in Alberta roughly 2200ft elevation. I jetted like my old one. So I may try raising needle 1 notch first and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll have to increase main jet 1 size

I'm running this quad same as my last one. Only difference is I was at sea level before, now I'm around 2200ft.

Stock carb, 42 slow, 3rd clip down with dynojet needle, 142 main.

Yup m going to try dropping down to 2nd clip and see if that helps...

Oh ok that gives me an idea for a 380 with a 300ex im thinking probably 145 or 148 main would be close to me then with a p&p head 459 and 2'' snorkel. Let us know the results of droping the clip.

Re: Operation Big Bore 2017/10/31 12:44:37 (permalink)
Wow, been a long time since I posted back.... jetting turned into a nightmare, but I finally figured it all out.

I had to remove the metal air screen inside the air filter. Then I had to toss a 42 slow, needle on 3rd clip & believe it or not, had to run the stock main!!!!! Yes a 125. I talked to a speed shop and they say they see it all the time where you run a BBK and creates more vacuum so it pulls fuel thru the main faster and may even have run a smaller main.

I know have a 300ex carb on the way with new throttle cable. So I'll see how it runs after I get that all dialed in. Im considering a 450 basket & primary now as well. Only because my old Honda 355 with all same mods would out run a 420 or 500. I can't seem to do that with this one. I"m baffled why.... since my last post, I now have a Ricks Hot Shot CDI hitting upwards of 7700rpm driving, average 6500rpm & 8200rpm in Neutral. I as well have tossed on the lightest 26" rubber I could buy... Zillas. Pulls hard thru all gears, just no top speed like my old one.
