Oakleys anyone?

I bit the bullet and paid for these darn things. I had a couple pairs a few years ago but i broke one pair and the dog ate my other pair. Anyone else wear Oakleys?

I just bought the same pair for my son for baseball. He loves them. I'm a Ray Ban guy. Nothing against Oakley's or anyone else but growing up in a military family we always got Ray Bans free. So I guess it just stuck with me.

Re: Oakleys anyone? 2017/05/26 12:59:19 (permalink)
Nope.  Oakley used to be a good company.  Had a great warranty, and stood behind their products.

My prior job was inventory management for 40+ golf courses.  Initially I was hired as a sort of internal auditor, but ended up doing all the buying too.  We carried Oakley's at a couple of courses.

The rep in Oklahoma used to ship in thousands of dollars worth of stuff we didn't order, then give the employees free glasses to get them to keep the golf shoes, bags, clothes, and other crap in stock, that ultimately wouldn't sell until we marked it down and took a big hit on it. We'd pay $60 for pair of golf shoes with an MSRP of $120, and then they'd sit on the shelves for a year and we'd close them out for $25-30/pair.

When I took over the buying I called the rep and told him no product without a purchase order.  He shipped another few thousand dollars worth of golf shoes into the shop anyway.  I called and told him to pick them up.  I called Oakley corporate and told them what had happened, and they told me to call the rep that he would have to handle it.  This crap sat in the boxes for months waiting on him to pick them up.  Oakley wouldn't take them back, and he didn't want to lose the commission he'd made on them so he just stalled.  In the meantime, we got past due notices every month and when we got a collections notice I completely lost it.  Luckily I'd kept documentation of all the correspondence between Oakley Corp and me, and the Rep and me.  I forwarded it all to them and told them to close the account.  That got their attention and they FINALLY called the rep and told him to pick the stuff up.  We then got an amended invoice for a 30% restocking fee for the crap we didn't order.  I closed the account.  They finally said they'd waive the restocking fee "as a courtesy" but I told them to F off and closed the account.

Our other account had a different rep, good guy, but Oakley customer service still SUCKED.  I had a pair of Oakleys  with gold iridium lenses.  The coating started flaking off the lenses, and Oakley had a "Lifetime Guarantee" when I bought them @ 2000 or so.  I sent them in, and they sent them back saying lenses weren't covered.  I called the rep and told him to look at them.  They weren't scratched or abused.  Then **** lenses were flaking off.  He said the warranty on lenses was now 1 year, and the frames were lifetime.  A couple of years later, the Omatter frames cracked, and I sent them back to Oakley.  They sent them back to me and said the warranty was now no warranty on lenses, and 1 year on the frames.  This was with me not only as a consumer, but as someone with freaking wholesale accounts as well!

They used to be good.  Now they are a **** company and I wouldn't wear their **** if you gave them to me.  When a company sells something at a premium price with a "lifetime warranty" and then refuses to honor the warranty, they lose my business for good.  I went back to Ray Ban Aviators for driving, and use cheap MAXX for work and beating around outside.  The MAXX have crappy looking frames, but really good lenses and are cheap enough to toss when they get scratched up.  My Ray Bans were probably purchased in the late 80's.  I had them when they were "Top Gun" cool, put them in a drawer for 20 years, and then pulled them out and started wearing them again.

I have Maui Jims in my wife's car for when I ride with her.  They are overpriced, but good company, and good glasses.

MAXX are as good quality-wise as Oakleys.  No flair involved, just good lenses.  They're $10-15/pair too.  If you're going to buy a cheap pair of plastic crap frames with no warranty you might as well get them cheap instead of paying $150-200 for them.

Lets just say I have a lot more experience dealing wifh the company than most, and I'm not particularly impressed with the company. Lol.

I had several paid when all of the above happened. All of them had the same problem with the lenses flaking. Oakley just says "that's not covered" and wants you to buy another pair.

On a $150 pair of sunglasses that is unacceptable

Dang Jeepwm I hate to hear all this now. Like I said I never been an Oakley fan but never seen the corporate problems of course since I'm not in that line of work but I never seen anyone's lenses peeling. That just plain sucks and I hope my sons don't do that. I seen in 07 they were bought out by Luxottica so maybe that has helped.

The only reason i ever gave Oakleys a chance was because my friends brother was a rep for Oakley and i got a free carbon fiber pair from him for helping put an engine in his drag car. Im usually not a materialistic person but i guess i am sort of on my sunglasses. However my $6 Dewalt sunglasses work just as well and look just as good.

Hey BCOM or you yourself happy with them? If so that's all that matters. I think as with anything people have good and bad experiences as all people and things or not perfect. We just got a phone call this week from a major manufacturer asking why our service calls on their products or so low? We kindly replied we take great pride in ourselves and our work and care about our customers.

Im not totally satisfied with them. I ordered some black temple socks for them so i dont look like a barbers pole wearing them. I also think they are a little wide and dont hug the face as well as my Dewalts but theyre wearable.

Yall should really try the MAXX. When the salespeople called trying to set up a sales meeting I blew them off. There are 100 cheap brands of glasses and they're almost all crap. When MAXX kept calling and I kept putting them off they finally sent all the individual courses free samples, as well as sending me one at the corp office. VERY clear lenses. I order them a dozen pair at a time, and when they get scratched up or lost it's not a bug deal. Great beach/fishing/4wheeling glasses.

You're paying for the "Cool shades bra'" attitude that comes with the glasses.

Calling Oakley Corporate was like trying to talk to a bunch of 16 year old stoners who are all trying to show you how cool they are.....

I know i didnt need the glasses and my Dewalts probably do just as well. Buying Oakleys is like buying a pair of Levis or Nikes or Carhartts.
