OUCH... this sucks....

Here is what i broke this weekend.... I hope warranty covers it.. if not.... do yall know where i can get parts cheap? i need the whole front diff and through shaft....

    i pushed a boy out of a rut on a rincon.... they i got in his ruts.. so my bike sunk down a lil bit.. i hit the throttle about half way to dig out... POW... thought i had broken another axle... nope... it was the whole front diff this time....

    This issue with the front diffs on the 2012 850's is getting ridiculous! That sucks brad but hey when you break something you go ALL OUT! Lol

    Idk how all these problems with the front diff are happening. I guess I got lucky so far, I have a 12 diff in my bike and knock on wood it only locks in when my axles bottom out. I do have gorilla axles in the front tho. Idk if that is what is making a difference.

    Have an 09 that the same thing happened to me.  Does suck! My problem was the diff mount bolts loosened up and 2 of them stripped.

    what usually breaks is just the $400 neck. The bad part is when the neck breaks, it takes the ring and pinion with it, wasting the $1250 or so diff.

    the diff can be bought for 5 or 6 hundred. I believe 2010850xp on here said he bought a whole new one for that price awhile ago. 
     
    Not sure on the thru shaft. Might check out cheapcycleparts.com

    A few months ago, around Feb or Mar there was a part change/update that increased the price from about $900 to $1250~ish.

    I bought my front diff new from the dealer for $750 back in 2010. Man have the price tag gone up on them!!! Especially if the 2012 diffs are even crappier with 4x4 problems.

    If i break a diff and get stuck with a new one, & pay that price and have 4x4 problems. Ill be moving to can am.

    So what is causing the diff to break? I really dislike these weak drive train issues.

    Im not real sure but I feel the same way you do about it... I think mine is going to be covered under warranty... The Service manager at my dealer said this isnt the first one he has seen do that....

    Yeah I really like my XP, but I don't like riding a ticking time bomb. Then again I have been luckier than most and haven't had any issues other than weak axles and a faulty battery.

    Buddy of mine did the same thing on his 12 model. He also had the 3inch lift. I think they changed some things in the suspension on the 12 models (jus what i heard), and people keep having problems with them. I havent had any trouble out of my 09. That sucks tho man

    i know how ya feel brad i took my catvos 3/2.5 lift off and sold it and sold ol2s Ive had nothing but problems out of my 850 but luckily the dealer took care of me and warrantied everything. even after lift was off i was having problems with diff kicking in and then my starter went out i got rid of it yesterday after having it for 4 months and i will never buy another 850xp again i know i must have got a lemon but it was a nightmare.

    Wow that is a bummer man. My diff has kicked in several times, but after the original battery died on me 3 months after I bought my a 850 they replaced it and I have not had the diff kick in sense that. My speedo also never worked very well till they replaced the battery then magically everything worked. I don't understand these machines that is why I bought a warranty and when that is up I have a feeling I'll be going with something else...till then will just have to see.

    I had issues with mine from day one luckily my dealer took real good care of me and when i took it back to trade it in yesterday he straight up told me that he didnt want it lol.....o wells live and learn my new rzr should be delivered in a couple hours

    Man I was really looking into getting one of these as a semi mud and trail bike. But the more I get on here the less I want one. Looks like everyone is having these issues no matter what year model. Any say if polaris is looking into the issue yet? I love the bikes but this just kills them for me. 

              I can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens me.

    my dealer said its just because the lift is putting too big a angle on the axles mine blamed the Catvos lift. it was powerful but thats about all i can say. mine always starting to get where it was super hard to turn and i would have to put it in reverse and back up and the steering would loosen up and g o back to normal. I had the non powersteering model.
