I used the splines from a pinion gear shaft from the blown up rear diff I had and used the cup and part of the shaft from the front driveshaft that I had laying around from when I did the 424. Welded the splines to the end of the shaft and slipped it all together.

I don't think it will. It's pretty well centered and I know the weld won't break. I made it long enough that the spring was putting some pressure on it to keep everything tight.

New Guy From West TN Honda 300 2016/08/21 15:49:46 (permalink)

Here is that valve stem I was talking about.

I bought a new carb for the Honda today but I don't think I will get to use it until I buy a new throttle cable. When I first got the bike I put a new carb on it and ran it, everything was cool until I started sinking it lol. After cleaning it several times and I cleaned the stock one I put it back on. The bowl start leaking and so is the primer plunger. I ended up buying a carb that a buddy had. It supposed to have came off a 300, then was put on a 250 big red and then was on his 400ex. I liked the butterfly choke on that carb so I bought it. Ends up the hole where the throttle cable screws in is bigger on that carb. So into the parts pile it goes until I do something else with it. I did end up cleaning the other carb I had and put it on today. So no more fuel leaks and I have power through out the throttle range again.

Re: New Guy From West TN Honda 300 2016/08/26 20:48:05 (permalink)
Hey guys.
Sorry for the lack of updates ive been away from the project most of the week. I just thought these things where an expensive toy, a girlfriend is way worse lol, but I can still trade up to a different model if I feel like it.
I rode this afternoon a little bit and I learned a few things. One the rear shock has zero give in it so I will need to soften it up some, im probably going to redo my swing arm stretch and go on out to 8 inches and it will be a solid one no bolt on extension. I need to bleed my front brakes again, and get the front lifted to match this thing drives horrible with the rear up that high and the front not. I will probably build some arched A arms for the front once I get a pipe bender so I may build straight ones to start with.

Yep. I was being sarcastic about the arched rear.
How do I make plates for the ball joints? Is a tapered hole or anything?

Re: New Guy From West TN Honda 300 2016/08/26 21:30:57 (permalink)
on a stock 300 only the lower ball joints are tapored you can either buy some plate already made for 50 from a guy or measure and make your own and then drill the lower ball joints out a little bit of a time to make up a tapor. I did that 2 times now and its worked fine but in the future  will be buying the $50 plates

Ok.
Thanks for the info on the joints.
I may buy those A arms fr my buddy and use the plates and bushing ends from them and bluid some custom arched A arms.
I am going to try and get those new shocks mounted up front for now to help lift the front till I get the arms made. Still have to find the pipe and stuff to do the swing arm stretch. Going to add another 2 inches and it be a solid no bolt on crap. The bolt on was a good idea to see what I wanted but it's time to upgrade.

Good deal homie!!!! I personally like my 8" stretch. Yep do you a solid with no bolt on pieces that way it's less chance of failure.

I'm probably not going to do an extrem arch but I really don't know yet.
I need to get the new tires to see what I need to do I reckon. Got to rebuild the engine also.

For my A arms should i use hymjoints so I can adjust them or just make them solid like stock?
Also when you do a 317 kit I know you resleeve the jug. How is this done? Do you just push the old sleeve out with the new one?

Yea use heim joints. For the 317 you need to have the sleeve pressed out and the jug bored for the rancher 350 sleeve then press it in to the newly bored jug.

The build has not progressed any as of late.
I don't think I'm going to do the standard arched A arms that arch all the way down. I see some that had one bind in them and i like the look so I think I will do it that way.

Still haven't ordered engine parts, don't have much budget so I'm kinda taking it slow lol

If I was to cut my axles and add a third cv joint in the middle would that help with binding?

Man I don't suggest cutting and welding a cv shaft. They hardly ever hold up, they will not be balanced and will rapidly accelerate bearing failure.

So you don't think a third joint would help? One on each end and one in the middle?
