New Forum Guidelines

As part of these new rules we are going to start strictly enforcing companies and members using this forum and a marketing tool for advertising and public relations.  I realize there are members here that have been using names that will no longer be accepted and these members will have 30 days to change their name.  For this one time, during this period we will help users change their name without having to open a new account.  After the 30 days these accounts will be deleted without additional explanation.  These names should not have been allowed to begin with we simply overlooked them.  We will be sending this post out to every registered user of this forum so everyone should have a heads up with plenty of time.
I think these updates will be a welcome to both our members and our moderators.

High Lifter is making a long overdue update to our forum guidelines, rules and policies.  These changes are not meant to create  a free for all but to increase the members and guests level of satisfaction as to how we manage the forum.  As part of these changes we’re also going to be making changes to how we moderate the forum.  In short, there will be more flexibility with what is allowed on the High Lifter forum in regards to content, opinions, other products, etc.  However, along with that, our moderator staff is instructed to just delete those posts they feel grossly cross the line.  A good rule of thumb is if you get several posts deleted for the same reason then you are probably about to be banned.  The goal is to allow more freedom of discussion therefore making it less likely to get banned.  The assumption we are going with is that everyone here is an adult and can read and understands these policies.  Those that insist on pushing the edge for antagonistic reasons will be removed.  The number one goal of this forum is to allow for the open exchange of industry information and ideas among consumers.  It is NOT intended in any way to be a selling platform or public relation tool for anyone or company. Below are the new guidelines…

•   Advertising for other companies by that company, or an individual forum member will be deleted.  An example of gross advertising is “go buy XYZ part at Anywhere ATV for $xx.xx” or something similar.  It is okay to discuss other products and companies on the High Lifter forum.  Posting prices is not against the rules but encouraging others (ie advertising) to go buy a product is not allowed.  High Lifter reserves the right to decide what is advertising.
•   Screen names which include company names of Powersports industry companies are not acceptable.  Hypothetical illustrations of unacceptable screen names include:   Joe@atvwhatver.com, XYZ Powersports, XYZ Warranty, etc.  These names  are intended to identify the company and are therefore not allowed.
•   No competitor’s website, link or email can be included in a post, signature or avatar.  If the competitor’s name being discussed ends in .com that will be considered a link.  The goal is to allow for more open discussion and we can’t help it if they choose to have .com in their name.
•   No religious or political discussions are allowed.  Having said that, members should be aware that regardless of this rule High Lifter continues to support members who seek counsel or prayers from fellow members.  As always, these threads and posts are welcome.
•   No word game threads
•   No nudity or profanity in text or posted pictures
•   Text size in posts and signatures cannot exceed 15 pt font
•   No links in posts or signatures or advertising in signatures.  Stating what accessories you have is okay regardless of the manufacturer.  For example just listing XYZ Company would not be okay but listing XYZ 6” lift is okay.  Just listing the name is considered advertising as opposed to stating the products you have installed on your machine.
•   No joke threads
•   The forum is not the venue to discuss dating habits, social life, personal issues with neighbors, parents, or drinking stories.

If you feel you are being treated unfairly, email forum.policy@highlifter.com with your complaint and she will review your problem.  Most times she will agree with the moderator’s action, but there could be occasions where the moderator’s action is overturned.

let me get this straight, say i have a lift from megabigpower,(idk if thats a real brand, just dont want to use XYZ) and its a 2" lift, so in my sig i CANT say 2" megabigpower lift? because interpereting that you cant say that, only 2" lift is allowed. and is saying what brand exhaust we have ok still? you guys dont have exhaust so i dont see why it wouldnt be allowed if it isnt.

^^ from what I took that is ok to have as long as you have what product it it so you could have megabigpower 2" lift but not simply megabigpower as that would be advertising and not simply listing what product you have on your atv

I realize everyone wants to understand these updates, but please don't pick them apart.  The jist is, don't advertise for other companies.  Feel free to discuss any atv topic or product through general discussion.  We want you to be able to openly discuss pros and cons before making buying decisions or just enjoying good conversation about different products, even if we don't sell them.  The goal is to allow more open discussion!!!!!

Not to be brash or anything but about the only changes from the old, which has ran many people away from the forum, is now ya'll are going after anything mentioned about anyone other than HL.  This doesn't seem to be anything done to make it any easier on anyone.  Just seems like more work for the gods,  oooops, mods.

No, what i said is "Feel free to discuss any atv topic or product through general discussion.  We want you to be able to openly discuss pros and cons before making buying decisions or just enjoying good conversation about different products, even if we don't sell them.  This is hardly going after anything.  I realize it says no .coms and you have a good point.  Truthfully, i don't mind seeing a link to a site listing racing activities as long as it is in context and not just a link to xyz site.  What i do mind is people using this site to promote their own self interest for financial or other gain or for another company's interest.

All i am asking for good common sense and good etiquette.  For the life of me i don't understand how this bad or could even be construed as being more stringent.

i see where you are coming from on almost everything but the mudhole. i know some ppl dont have anyone to talk to except us about things that really bother them. we dont know them say they feel safe telling strangers. i know a while back someone had a post that said something like " have you ever just wanted to end it" it was teenager going through some hard times. whether he was really considering it or just wanted attention who knows. but if he was considering it im sure everyones post changed his mind. so that thread was def worth it. maybe a daily life thread should be created to help ppl deal with personal stressful situations in life. everything else i agree with though

it was not jumper, just an in general kind of thing. i absolutely support anyone in need or having a really hard time to come here for help from their fellow riders and peers.  that is meant for the things that are best handled on other social sites.  dating habits for example always lead down the road to inappropriate comments.

My take on this is When I didnt mean anything when I posted a name of a place that had great prices and service on Arctic Cat parts you deleted it, I meant no harm no foul when I did it I am not connected with them, Ive seen Political topics on here bashing our government for too much control, Talk about Control!  You have to be afraid about what you say and do on here unless its complaining about something. Holy Crap!
