Medcamps of Louisiana

Well first off, this isn't you're average ride.  In fact, it's my favorite ride of the year.

Each summer there is a camp in Sibley Louisiana for kids with life threatening diseases.  And, every Sunday me and a few friends show up on four wheelers to ride the kids (Something that some of them have never been able to do).  Granted, there's not much mud (sometimes none), but making a kid who doesn't have a lot to smile about, laugh himself silly and scream like he's on a roller coaster more than makes up for it.

One problem.  We are starting to run low on bikes.

If anybody is in the Northeast area of Louisiana and has a few hours to spare, please bring your fourwheeler and help us out.

Everybody like to help us with Marengo and everbody likes to show up at other charity rides,  I'm giving you the chance to actually have a hands on experience with the kids that the rides benefit.  I promise no other ride will make you swell with pride and feel good more than this.

Here is Medcamps website.  http://www.medcamps.com/

Here is a video of what they're about.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nezGtrj7YFM

I'm not asking for any money, just your time.

That would be awsome, but Texas to Sibley, La.  would be a heck of a haul.  PM sent.

The camp is between Calhoun and Ruston off of the I-20.  You just take exit 93 and go north until you get to the flashing light.  That's Sibley,  Camp Alabama is on the left.  Drive past the first building and turn down the drive to the left.

See if there's a chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse near there. www.bacausa.com If there is, some of the members might be able to help. I was a member here up until last month. Had to drop out b/c of my school and work schedule. You won't find a better group of people who are out there for the kids.

The kids have a great time and so do we.  Now that the Can-am is 2 years old, I feel the need to hit the bog behind the lake dam.  Want to see if the Can-am can out run the swamp monster.

I might be able to make it one weekend in July.  Out of town now and closing on/moving into my house in a couple weeks so I'll have to see how smoothly it all goes.

If not this year, next year I will definitely be in.

This is an every week and every year event.  We've been riding the kids for the past 4-5 years.

This weekend was a lot of fun.  We only had 6 bikes with 20 campers.  It took about 1-1/2 hours to ride them all.

Next week is asthma camp and it usually has more campers.  Any help we get is greatly appreciated.

Sorry I didn't make my self clear.  My mistake.  This is just a summer thing.  It will end in the last week of July.  But, we do do this every year.

OK ya'll , this week will be asthma week.  We had six bikes last week and would like to see at least 8-10 bikes this week.  Asthma camp usually has a large number of kids, but they are easy to ride.  Anybody with an ATV is welcome to help.

My favorite memory of Med camps.

At Cerebral palsy camp last year, the parents hung around on the Sunday that we ride.  I got a kid who had never been on an ATV.  As soon as I cranked the bike he started laughing.  I only rode with him about 10-15 minutes, but he laughed an giggled the whole way.  A few times he started to scream.   I pulled over to make sure he was OK.  He was fine, He was only screaming the way most kids would on a rollercoaster. He was having a blast!!  I rounded the corner on the road to head back and gassed on it.  He went nutts, yelling FASTER, FASTER!!

When we got back to the start (to ride the next kid), the mother was standing there with her hands cupping her mouth.  I could tell she was smiling.  She came over to help her son off of my 4 wheeler, and then broke into tears as she gave me a hug.  She told me that she had never in her sons life seen him laugh like that.!!

I had to pull off to the side for a minute to collect myself.

If you want to know what that feels like, Let me know.  I can show you.

Well, we had to cancel the rides today.  Not enough bikes to ride the kids.

We can't ride next weekend because the camp won't start until July 7 because of the holiday.  That means we have two weeks to get some more people to help.
