Making a crawfish trap.

Can someone show me a picture of a crawfish trap and some minor instructions on how to make one? Here in Ga there are fresh water crawfish in creeks that are as big as the ones served in seafood restaurants here. Are these the ones that can be eaten or do I just use them to catch bass?

Here in Tifton we are limited to Mexican supplies and weirdos. I have never seen a crawfish trap here.

I took my son and daughter fishing and they were grabbing our beetle spins and pulling them into the rocks under the bridge. There were LOTS of them and where the gar were in the deep they would climb up on the roots and wait for prey. Some of them were prolly 3 to 4 inches long. Are they night feeders or does it matter with a trap if its day or night?

I have done it with a 2 liter bottle with some holes in it so it would sink. Just throw a piece of bacon in it sink it and check it every afternoon. Its not the best trap but it will work for ya just not as good as a wire trap.

use a big jar and cut one hole in the lid 2", use bacon or weinies and sink it in the water with the hole towards the top, they'll fall in and not get out. if you can also find a small light to put in there also it will attract them.

for shallow waters like ditches or rice pond crawfishing we use triangle traps. its chicken coup wire with a hole on each side and a pvc pip on top for a ring so you can just grab it and flip them out. the holes on the end are just the wire flapped in and then stitched up and made so they can not get out of it if they are larger than a size. bait wise you can use just about  anything they will eat it.

We just use minnow traps.  Throw some kind of meat in there and just wait.

Last year,  when I checked one of my minnow traps,  a snake had gotten into it and eaten all the minnows.  It couldn't get out and drowned.  The minnow trap was full of crawdads that had gotten in the trap and had eaten the snake.

shoot we dont even use traps... all we do is get a piece of string with a hook on the end and put a piece of bacon on it and drop it down in a crawfish hole and catch them like that.

I run a crawfish pond is this is what we do. we trap a 80 acre rice field, and use triangle traps and we were catching around 17-20 35lb sacks a day. Purina makes crawfish bait that we use. they sell it in a 50lb sack.

This is our last week of this season that we are traping.

If you have any questions just let me know and I can probably answer it.
