Lawn mowers

Well I'm in the market for a new lawn mower and weed eater. My yard is getting out of hand and it's hard for me to find time to go borrow everything from someone.

As much as I would love to have a big zero turn, my yard isn't that big and my wallet is even smaller. Leaning towards a self propelled push mower. What are yalls thoughts? Also thoughts on weed eaters. My favorite brand is Shindaiwa but they can be a little pricey.

Honda push mower with the poly deck!!! It's freaking amazing and will last forever!!!! I like Husqvarna for all my yard tools. Heck browse Craigslist. I found a push weedeater for $115 and it runs like a top!!! An old man had it and you can tell he was very meticulous as it is a 96 model!!!!

I used a Husqvarna push mower the other day and I liked it, but it was fairly new.

I'm no fan of the craigslist! The way I think is they are selling it for a reason!

Ol lady is always complaining about not having any credit so I may see if I can talk her into opening an account at lowes or somewhere!

There you go homie plus you can probably get interest free for so many months!!!! My mom still has her Husqvarna riding mower from the 90's. Still cuts 2 acres like a boss. Change oil, filter, air filter, plug and fuel filter every year and roll it!!!

Had a husqvarna 48in and it was just about the best mower I had ever used. Wore it out cause back then I was mowing ALOT. Upgraded to the 54in and couldn't stand that piece of junk. Left strips and went through blades like a coke head.

I dont own a push mower but i would recommend a honda with electric start. As for weed eaters, ive got a 4 stroke craftsman that has interchangeable heads and its been runnin good for 10 years and you dont have to mix gas and oil.

I was looking around yesterday and it's amazing the differences you see. Went to lowes and their John Deere mowers look like they are made of sheet metal, went to the dealer and they are made with real steel that could take a beating. All about getting money from people.

I bought a deere from home depot years ago cause I was a brother on a budget!!! I made sure to get the kohler engine on it. I was proud to first two years. After that constant deck problems!! Then finally the deck rotted out and put me out my own pain and suffering. This have the tractor as I put a piece railroad track under to knock down crawfish chimney's!!!! Then I bought my badboy and only had one minor problem in four years and that was just an oversight on the engineering. A grade 8 washer and 5 minutes later and fixed better than new. My old deere was always an hour of work on it just to start mowing. That's when I realized there was a difference where you bought from!!!! Even if your buying a push mower I'd look at a dealer and they offer financing too!!!! So your old lady can get her credit on!!!!

The deeres at lowes and home depot are very low end units. You need to go to a dealer and purchase one of the X series units. The X series are the good heavy versions. I got my X300 10 years ago and have not had any problems with it ever. You can get a kawasaki engine in the X series units as well.

If you want gas powered push mower, get a Honda.

If you want a riding mower, buy a Husqvarna and NOT at a big box store.

The big box store stuff is garbage.  ALL of it.

If you want a weedeater, buy the pro grade Husky, Stihl, or Echo.  DO NOT BUY homeowner stuff.  Buy the commercial stuff.  It will last forever if you take care of it.

I'm currently running a circa 1985 John Deere 112L, and a circa 1994 Honda GX75.  I change the oil, sharpen blades, and go through a belt every once and awhile.  They both mow ok.  Not as pretty as it would be with a new mower, but they both have Kawasaki motors and obviously are super reliable given their age.

My weedeater is a mid-late 80's Echo 2100.  I have a newer Echo weedeater I bought at a fundraiser thinking that my old one couldn't last much longer, but it still works fine so I've never started the new one.

I worked on a friend's new LA115 John Deere.  That thing was a complete piece of crap.  After two years of light mowing I had to buy a new carb (apparently had an internal crack in it, wouldn't run right not matter what I did).  Then he started having valve issues galore.  This was on a NEW mower.  Complete piece of crap, and after nosing around troubleshooting what was wrong with his, looks like everyone has the same problems with the big box stuff.

Buy pro grade.  Buy once, cry once.  You'll thank me in 5 years when you're still using your stuff.

Well went to my Husqvarna dealer today and found out they are not a good business. Walked in and told them I!was looking for a Husqvarna push mower and weed eater. The guy proceeded to rudely tell me he doesn't sell the weed eaters (even though I was looking at 2 hanging on the wall) and said he sold a better brand called RedMax. I've never heard of them but they are some company owned by Husqvarna. He then started filling out all the paperwork on a weed eater I had never heard of and a mower he couldn't answer any questions about but it was better. Then he throws the paperwork on the counter and walks off to help someone else leaving a lady that had no idea what was going on in charge. They kept trying to do add ons like a better blade (in their opinion) and all kinds of crap. Next thing I know she's asking for $700 and idk what the heck I'm even buying! Told them to keep it and walked out.

I'll find another dealer or go a different route. What really got me was the guy thinking he knew exactly what I needed because he thinks it's better. If he was smart he would have ordered me what I wanted and he would have made more money, now he lost a customer. Thought they were a good place to deal with because that's where we buy all of our small engine parts for our company. Even bought a $6000+ Ferris zero turn for our ground keeper from there. Oh well, their loss

I hear you!!! I'm in sales and my motto is the customer is always right!!! Then I educate them and show the differences of why they should think about something else. But if they are set on something I just roll with it.

As with everything, Husky is big conglomerate now.  Husky owns Weedeater, Poulan, Redmax, Jonesered, and a few other brands.

The box store Huskys are going to be the same as a Poulan.  In other words, garbage.

Get a pro grade and you'll get the quality you're looking for.  It is more expensive up front but it will last.

As far as crap service, go elsewhere.  Smaller hardware stores tend to be your best bet.  My local True Value has Husky, and when I went in to buy a saw I told him what I wanted.  He, of course, tried to sell me what he had in stock, which was not what I wanted (346XP), and I told him I wanted ONLY that saw, and to order it for me or I would go get one elsewhere.   I was nice about it, but I knew what I wanted, and had researched it before I went to the store, so I didn't need to ask questions, all I needed to do was tell the guy to order my saw.

You won't find many dealers who sell the good stuff who will budge much on price.  They don't have to.

Husqvarna owns Redmax cause that's what he was trying to sell me.

He didn't try to talk me into what he had, he just started filling out the ticket. I'll find somewhere else and I'll walkout happy. Poor, but happy!

A good lawn mower is an investment like a car. Get a good one and it may last 10-20 years. Just bite the bullet one time on the price and that price will save you the time to never have to work on it ever.
