If I wanted to build a big **** mud truck....

where is the best place to start shopping for parts?  My son was on youtube watching videos, and a late 90's model dodge with a cummins on 54" boggers and rockwells was cutting up.  It got me thinking "I got a dodge with a cummins just sitting there with no use, lets do that to it"   I know I'll just being using the cab, bed, frame and motor and building from there.  Where does everyone buy axles, wheels, tires, ect.  What transfer case or whatever would bolt up behide the 12 valve?  I'm new to building mud trucks like this.  And not looking to build a showtruck either.  Just as long as its works and does whats it suppose to.  I've done some looking around and got prices, but figured someone on here who knows could point me in the right direction, website, ect.

I own nothing.

Awesome.  Thanks for the links.  I already looked at the Boyce equipment.  Can I take a set of rockwells straight off something and install them that way, or is it best to do something to the brakes and such?  Like I said, clueless when it comes to this.

I'm not sure.  Best thing you can do is get on those forums and read up.  I do know a set of 2.5 rocks cost about the same as a built pair of 1 tons.

You can find 2.5 ton axles around here pretty cheap in my area actually just bought a complete duece and a half for $2000 run's and drives.  Throw pinion brakes on the axles, transfer case depends on if the truck is 4wd now or 2wd.

I spent the last hr reading on TGW forum.  IF I decide to do something, I think I'm gonna go with some 1 tons on leafs.  Gotta get a transfer case.  My truck is just a 2wd.  As bad as I wanna build this monster, I still wanna drive it street legally.  The only thing holding me back is $$$, lol.

Street legal? pphhhtt.  I lived in La for a while and used to see giant trucks drive all over the place.
Here's my bud's truck that he used drive all over town before he sold it.

Ok, I'm coming back down to earth now.  As bas as I wanna build some monstrosity, money and ability to haul is a problem. So lets think street legal. My truck is a 2wd.  If I was to convert it for 4wd, what axle would you run up front?  Right or left side chunk?  Of course it would be a 1 ton axles.  What transfer case options would you do?  Remember 2wd at the moment, so I'm thinking the best way is to find a divorced case and build me some mounts, then have my driveshafts built.  Dana 70 in the rear now, so I'll be good there I think.  I know it would be easier to find a 4wd truck and go from their, but I like my truck, lol.

Dodge divorced 205 case, Dana 60 front diff. Which I believe a Chevy or dodge d60 will work. You need passenger side since the dodge case is pass drop. Or go with a ford case and ford driver side axle. But dodge and Chevy are a lot easier to find.

I have a Chevy d60 front axle and I know where a dodge 205 that is already twin sticked is.

I believe they are 4:10's. The axle is not assembled and would need several new parts. But i was going to build it with all aftermarket parts so I wast worried about missing parts. For the axle and all the parts I can dig up for it out of my shop I will let it go for $400. I think the boy wants $450 for the dodge np205.

Not bad.  I'm more or less wanting something I can get complete and go from there.  I'm cheap, lol.  I got all next week off, so I might be hitting the u pull its.  I know I can find an axle, that 205 might be a challenge thou.  I might be interested in it.

And I'll had a few 4x4's with small lifts and stuff, but the whole drop style transfers, rockwells, tractor tires and wheels with 30" of lift stuff is new to me.  Never really studied them much.

They build nice trucks, but honestly I'm not a fan of their style of building. Just personal preference.

search search and search craigslist in your area and surrounding areas for axles and other parts... talk to buddies, start going to truck pulls or big mud boggs and ask around... ask around at atv rides too cause alot of the guys who ride atv's are just into 4 wheeling in general... heres a buddy of mines truck he is building right now... its a 98 z71. He scored the front/rear axles out of a Military 1-ton truck (dana 60 front, 14b rear) for $400 for the set at a local yard... bought the 12" front springs from a buddy of ours for $100, got the rear springs at summit for $300, and various brackets and swap parts from ebay and ORD, ect... oh and the 46" military Michelins from a military tire surplus supplier in north GA for $700 for the set and found the 20x12 wheels new on ebay for $700 shipped.
