How to change a boot?

I need some help we went on a ride and a peace a rope got raped around my back outside boot and just slid it off the u-joint it didnt tear it or anything. So how do i put it back on? And also i kept ridin it with it slid off we didnt go through any seriouse mud just some muddy water will that hurt it or can i clean it up real good and repack it with grease? Thanks

i would clean it up really well to be sure you don't have any debris in there. to remove it, you should remove the trailing arm, which requires a special socket. if it's on the right side (when seated), you can probably pull the axle without removing the trailing arm by unbolting both shocks and pushing down on the rear of the trailing arm. should give you just enough room to slide the axle out (loosen the axle nut first, but leave it on to help pull it out of the diff). if it's the left side, remove trailing arm, or unbolt the diff to get enough room to pull the axle. i tried to get the left side out by pushing down with the shocks off but the axle is longer on the left side and it would bind up. here's a short write-up of how i did my rear inboard boot: http://www.atvtorture.c...cv-boot-replacement.html
