Gotta replace my through shaft, any advice?

I broke my through shaft at Nat's and have a Gorilla through shaft in hand, I've also ordered all new bearings and seals for it. Anybody got any good advice for me before I start on it?

i broke mine and i pulled the clutches and inside of the clutch cover then pulled the exhaust off. after that i unbolted the trans from the motor and separated them an then pulled the front drive shaft and after that just turned the motor side ways in the bike and its easy from there . just pull the caps pull it out and put it back

You're gonna need a clutch puller, aside from that basic tools will suffice. The way I change em is to remove both fenders, drain fluid from motor and trans, loosen airbox from frame and from throttle body, remove exhaust, remove clutches and housing, remove driveshaft bolts, remove motor bolts (1 up front on the bottom, 2 on left side up top, 1 in the back on the trans), remove shift linkage from trans, unbolt 4x4 actuator, unplug wires from trans  ( they're color coded), remove the 3 bolts holding the motor and trans together, wiggle motor forward and backward to get the drive shafts loose then slide the motor forward enough to get the trans loose. Once the trans is off and out of the way there's a cap around the shaft that holds the bearing and seal that will need to be removed. Remove the front cap also and the shafts will come right out. Be easy with the caps, they're kinda brittle. When reinstalling the caps use some high temp silicone or they will leak. The seals have different ID's so be sure and remember that the seal with the bigger ID goes on the back of the motor. Really not a hard job, usually takes me about 2 hours. Use either the Can am trans fluid or chain case oil, don't use gear oil. I think that covers it all

I went to Mud Nat's this past weekend, which is where it broke, and I picked up a Gorilla through shaft while I was there.  I'm thinking about starting on it tomorrow.  But, I've got a soccer game I've gotta go to and some other stuff, so I may not get too in depth with it until next week sometime.  It will be ready by April 9th though!  We're planning on a bunch of us going to Copiah Creek!

It won't be long and I'll be in the same boat!!!  I probably ought to go on and trade my 31's for something less aggressive so I won't have to take a chance of tearing up something when that time comes......

dude, its a v-twin, why let off and hear teh clutch whine about how much better the exhaust sounds? plus throttle = fun, thats why im only going with 27" outlaws, little bit harder to break axles on them smaller, lighter tires

2010 Can-am Outty 650XT  -Snorkles, 29.5" Outlaw, 15" Glasspack, Radiator on the racks
    1985 F250 4x4 300/T18
    1977 f250 4x4 parting out now.

If money wasn't a factor, I'd have a 4" lift and skinny 29.5's!!! Plus, since I added the blue EPI secondary spring, my belt don't whine much at all anymore!
