Georgia Towing Laws - questions?

I have a bus that's converted to a camper and we use a double axle car hauler to pull 2 rhinos. Is it legal to put a hitch on the car hauler and pull a small trailer behind it? I've seen people do it with 5th wheel campers but I wasn't sure about with bumper pulls. It sure would make life easier if we could legally do this.

There's a Grey area to this. We have the same issue in FL.

While on the interstate, "triple" type rigs are usually OK. State Patrol has better things to do than muck with you - unless you're just blatantly not safe. If that's the case, the D.O.T cops will probably make you park the rig and separately remove it - at a nominal fee, lol..

The Grey area is when you get OFF the interstate and into the county, or city. Each County has their own interpretation of the law. Can argue it and even go to court over it - in the end, it's the judgment and opinion of the LEO that ticketed you. IF he/she thinks the vehicle is unsafe, you're probably going to be ticketed, if not parked and fined, possibly have your rig towed x3 (that's 3 separate tow bills) and just a crappy day all around.

Best bet is to read up on the counties you'll be navigating through and see what their laws are. I see them all the time up and down I75 in N. FL. However, I've also been called in to Tow (x3) them away after being parked by DOT because they're unsafe.

    This may hellp:

    http://longhorntrailers.com/pdf/State-Towing-Laws.pdf

It's from 04 so I'm sure a few laws have changed.  I know brake laws are the big issues now.  Anything over 3500 lbs has to have brakes in most states now.  Also like stated above, TX and LA are overall lengths including your vehicle (65') anything more you need a special permit.  We pull double stacks on a regular basis in TX and LA without problems as long as your lights work and your not over 65'.

Maybe H20 will chime in because he had an issue in FL or GA will pulling doubles.  Not real sure on the state though....

The lead trailer has to be a gooseneck or 5th-wheel and be less than 70ft total lenth. You can not pull a bumper with a bumper trailer. This is a GPS told me.

It is different in every state and some counties within them. Also if the LEO pulling you over isn't versed in the exact law there isn o point in arguing with them. Here in Utah we can pull doubles and the first trailer is not required to be a goose/5th we have an overall length 65ft. I'll paste Utah's then Georgia's for comparison...

From everyone I've talked to, it sounds like a 5th wheel/gooseneck is needed to do this legally in Georgia. It would be nice to pull the big grill behind to some rides though!

I'm not sure about Georgia, but most states have adopted the federal rules to there State rule "NOT" county which states RV's are not subject to CMR (Commercial Motor Vehicle Reguation)
@ SBWinVPS where did you get your information from, most of your towing web sites have the same information that you stated but can't tell you where they got the information except they copied it from another web site. But I've looked in Mississippi, Alabama, louisiana and Texas state laws from their on web pages and every thing I've read pretty much is a copy of the Federal laws only differences being is the lenght on which some states are different on the CMR reg's. Bottom line is do your own research and be comfortable and safe with what your doing.
I do recommend slowing down a little, if you act safe and are safe, you shouldn't have a problem.
One more thing is to know all laws of the states that you will pass through... Alabama has the rule you have to change lane Called the "move over" law when they have some one pulled over I didn't know that I alway tried my best to move over if I could with out running over another car, but I got pulled over for that and found out Alabama 2 years ago also pass a admindment to that law that if you can't move over you have to slow down by 15 MPH of the posted speed limit, that I also didn't know
