Fight Fight!

Just wondering, with all the "red necks", drinking, riding and muddin....is there a lot of fighting going on?  I live in Houston and everyone here is saying don't go to Mud Nats. 
We go to a riding park off 90 and we hardly ever see fights, but it's not on as grand of a scale as the Mud Nats.
 
Just wondering what to expect?? 

I've seen very few issues in the past. As long as you don't take the drunks too serious you're good. What are the reasons people are saying not to go? I'm in Crosby quite a bit (haven't been in a while though) and have seen more fights at the lakes than at Nats. It starts to get pretty crazy by Friday and some people really have no pride and will ask any and every woman on the highline for a show (even with their husband/boyfriend sitting right next to em). Some of that stuff can get a little old but we're all their to ride, party and have a great time so most don't take it personal.  If you've never been I'd highly suggest going at least once...it's an experience myself and my group look forward to every year. It's great to go riding and before you know it you're in a group of 50 or so....most you've never met before. Most go out of their way to help you out if you're stuck and need a push or a pull.  If the weather ends up going the way it's forcasted now it's gonna be a great year. Some rain on Wednsday and Thursday is gonna make for some great riding!!!

People that we have talked to say "it's packed, there's a lot of fighting, you don't hardly get a chance to ride at all... that you are pretty much just "stuck in traffic" from Friday thru Sunday and that it's a mad-house trying to get home on Sunday.  They are saying we should go on a weekend when it's not a big event like Mud Nats.
 
I'm looking forward to going, but my husband is getting a little discouraged after hearing this about the event.  We just bought a Grizzly 700 that he is really wanting to ride and he's starting to think we wont be able to ride much due to attendance....?? 

this will only be my third year but each year i have went i stayed all week and i have only seen two fights. they both happened last year but the cops and helpful attendees broke them both up b4 they got too serious.

my honest opinion is just be relaxed, don't take ANYONE seriously. If you bring a girlfriend then be prepared to have guys hitting on her. you have to have a sense of humor and so does she. most of the time if you will just smile as your ol' lady tells the guys no(when they ask for a show) then they will leave you alone.

Just do not take anyone too seriously.

This will be my 3rd year and I haven't seen the first fight yet. My g/f came the first year and of course guys wanted to see the goods, but we just kept on riding and didn't worry about them. For the most part that only happens on the highline and sand pit. Trails and the camping area we didn't have that problem. My g/f is coming this year also and she knows what to expect and so do I. From what I have experienced the last 3 years, what ya'll have been told is a little exaggerated... It's a great time and I don't plan on missing the party anytime soon... It is well worth the trip and more than likely ya'll will have the time of your life..

I only saw one fight last year.  3 guys tried to jump one fella from behind... what for I have no clue.  the fight ended rather quickly and one of the guys that was trying to start it got an eye messed up but that was about it... they were shaking hands when the cops walked up. 

I don't like to see fightin nor get into them.... maybe why I don't take a woman with me and I definately won't be taking one fella that went with us last year... his he as very big and terrribly vulgar and offensive mouth.

I only saw one at the sand pit last year and yes it is really packed on friday and saturday but it is still the best time. My crew would not miss it for the world. As long as you dont have a problem with a whole lot of drinking then you will be fine cause it is one big party and if your not in to that than maybe sit this one out and go on a slow day. We go more for the party and meeting people than for the riding. We do all our riding on wednesday and thursday and do all our riding on friday and saturday at night. The days are spent at the sand pit partying hard

any event you go to, there will be that one A - hole who wants to give unwanted attention and get touchy. but its a 15:1 ratio at mud nats. for every 1 touchy feely jerk, you have about 15 stand up guys that will back you up when they see that your G/F has been messed with wrongfully.

we might be thinking of the same one. supposedly some tard tried to hit a girl or get rough with her and 3 dudes jumped him. lol and the 3 dudes really didnt get much on that ol' boy. i talked to all of them after the fight b/c they happened to swarm over to my party spot and knocked my best friends wife on her butt so i was one of the guys trying to break it up.
 
 

i have been twice and never seen one but there have been some situations where one could have started very easily. if you pay attention you can see a fight start to boil and you can usaully get out of there before it happens.

Gotta love it! just roll with the flow and if you're tired of waiting in line on the highline, grab another beer and be patient. you will make somebody extremely mad by cutting in front of people that are wanting to get back to the sand-pit or back to camp just like everybody else. other than that it's a killer party. be safe and enjoy it.

we saw 2 fights on the highline last year.  pretty dang funny to watch 2 drunk dudes duke it out, fall down, and hardly land a punch.  anytime you have that many folks in one spot drinking, you're gonna have some fights break out.

If you like to ride and don't like crowds or traffic then just avoid the highline.  There are plenty of trails to ride and you can always find trouble if you look hard enough.  My wife came with me for the past 3 years and you have take the comments for what they are....it's like riding on a float in Mardi Gras or in a parade.... a lot of liquid courage!, but this is mainly down the highline on Saturday night!!!!
 
Personnaly when it comes to mud nats...it's hard to describe everything that goes on and you need to go at least once...you won't regret it.  Every year we bring a new people with us and they are hooked.  Two of the people that came with us have been talking about it since last year an purchased new sided by sides and have been counting down since last year.

Its all about fun.... BUT... comments are one thing trying to touch is another.... We boat all summer and ride motorcycles...go to rallies etc.... We are not newbies to people wanting to see the "goods"... but we was coming up the to the top of the hill on the high line and Ol drunk idiot decides he was going to see and feel for himself... The "REDNECK" came out in me and I dealt with the situation as I seen fit....It wasnt a fight because I only hit him once and he went night night....then my buddies pulled me off him..(no cops)... His buddies were apologizing for him and trying to make excuses for him but I was ****ed and didn't want to here it at the time....
As it turned out he was about three spots down from us, in the camp.... The next morning he came and apologized and all that....I told him if I could take a picture of his face( eye swelled shut,  black and blue custom markings on his face) and he promised not to ever cross that line again...we was good....  no harm no foul....
Thats the only problems we have ever had tho....and been going for 4 yrs
Did this happen to anyone else....guys trying to grab your wifes etc..... Thats the only thing I have a problem with.....look if she want to show but dont grab...and dang sure dont try to make her show them yourself... maybe Im just a **** redneck....but so be it...lol

pretty much what everyone else said above, if some guys asked to see the goods from your woman, just tell her to smile and say no thanks and you take it for what it is and don't get mad and ride on, all will be good. 

this is our first yr going. wife is coming. she knows how to handle herself. im good as long as its not the same person following and asking or wants to end his life by touching we all good. we going to have a good time. relax and ride and of course look at all the sights. we going with our team. you will see us there. got a good group going this yr.

I have been there each year since 06 and have never seen a fight.
If you don't like sitting in line or big crowds standing around then don't get on the high line or go to the sand pit on Friday or Saturday night.

This will be the 4th year i think. even thou people say it is not a family event, we go as a family and plan for it every year. just a 9:00pm the kids stay at the camp site.  It is the most fun we have ever had! there is plenty of places to ride and I have not been on every trail yet.  We are trying to camp far away from all the 24hr ridin and party people so we can get some sleep. we will have 3-4 at our site and then after we get up we will team up with my friends at triangle atv and there will 40-50 there to ride with. The most fun is to see all the different type of people and enjoy the show! PM me if you want my number and you can meet up with us. If you want the simi quiet place to camp we will save you a spot. We are leaving on Wednesday afternoon!  come on out! :-)

jchall... that was probably it..... it started on one side of the sand pit... and some of the guys friends pulled him back across the sandpit and then the 3 guys came running in from behind em and tried to jump him.... some big ole fella with a green wig on didnt like the idea of those guys jumping him from behind.... well the little fella that ran over and acted like he was gunna be the big bad guy didnt do anything but get a couple of cheap shots in the whole deal...  I heard he ended up getting chase down the edge of the water running like a little girl! lol

Where is one of the more quite places to camp at?  I like to stay up late and party, but going hard all night is not my style anymore.  Usually, by 1 or 2, I am ready for some sleep. 

At the Can Am Nats we made the mistake of camping right at the entrance to the high line.  All night long we would wake up to people flying by.  I am not complaining as I realize that is part of the atmosphere and I had a great time, but I am wondering if there is a part of the camping area that is a little more secluded or an "old farts" section?

the opposite side of the park isnt bad... but finding a spot overthere isnt easy... We camped over there last year and @ 6:00am wed morning sports kind of secluded w/out lots of people already there weren't easy to find.

I stayed near the highline also and sometime it seemed that someone was just about to come right thru the tent and I had ear plugs in. I hope to find a spot on the left side of the park away from the highline.  I can not confirm it is better but I am atleast going to try.....
