well i'm sticking to my keys on my wifes z71 tahoe.  Thing still rides like a caddy and has logged 87k levaled out and not one frontend part wore out.  Only thing ive done to it is put a updated intermidate sterring shaft to get rid of the clunk.  Had them on my 00 z71 with a 8 inch on top of that and 1 ton torsion bars and keys put 147k on it rolling 40s never had any trouble.

OK, Sorry its took so long to get some results up, but here it goes.

First: 4" downpipe back exhaust with muffler, gained 6mpgs! Yes, 6 MPGS. It was amazing to see that big of a jump.

Second: XRT tuner by H&S Performance, set to mild tune it lost about 2 mpg but had an AMAZING gain in hwy and pulling up hill power. I have decided to leave it on stock so I can see the higher MPG's.

So far I am very happy with the mods. I have a little under 1,100 in both and will gain that in fuel being saved in no time. The truck sounds awesome. Not too loud, but noticable and very disctint.

what do you drive? I NEVER say 13 or above with neither my dodge 6.7 or the dmax with the dpf crap on em. I saw 12 with the dodge and 10 on the dmax. I took it on a semi hwy ride today (10 miles to the beer store) and it got up too 18 and was still climbing when I pulled back up in my driveway.

It is in desperate need of the tranny kit though... Its acting like it cant pump enough fluid to shift firmly. The trans go jr kit should semi fix that if it will ever get here...

08 dmax crew cab z71. The dash says 13.2 mpg and doing it by hand comes out usually to 13.5ish

Re:Duramax build - Thursday, March 18, 2010 12:29 AM ( #36 )
dang, I wish my one ton would have gotten that stock... Guess it could be the added weight and 2 added tires and wheels... I also have 4:10 gears I THINK.

you will be amazed how easy that exhaust comes off. you will have to make 2 cuts or take out your torsion bar cross member and still  make one cut. Other than the 2 cuts, it comes out extremely easy and the 4" kit goes in even easier. I had mine out, and new one installed in 45 minutes. If ya got any questions about what I have planned or my results so far shoot me a pm or just pull up this thread.

Will do. My plan as of right now is just the mbrp 5" and the PPE programmer. I just sold my edge truck feels so weak now without a programmer on it lol

Why 5"? Not harassing, JW why you would pay the extra for 5" when its really not needed unless you just want it so you can say ya got 5"? lol

Im looking into the redesigned down pipe but thats going to be a true pain to install... Ive read stories where the PPE has caused some serious damage to the factory trannies.

I like the sound of the 5" better and just to say it's a 5" lol

Yeah you can have problems out of any programmer the ppe has got the best reviews that I have read behind efi live and I don't need/want efi live. From what everyone says if I don't go above a 90hp program I will be fine. But if it does go out it gives me an excuse to upgrade

lol I hear ya. Im interested to hear how that PPE does for ya. I had one on a dodge 5.9 and HATED it. I do not like smoke and it ROLLED the coal way too much for my liking. There is a time and place for smoke but with that PPE on a cummins it was always the time and place no what what kind of throttle control I had.

I was running a PPE on program 4 in my 03 D-max and it was VERY clean.  As a matter of fact, it was almost dissapointing when you were messing around with somebody.  But, that thing ran like a gaulded dog......

zilla you probably know this already but will state it anyways.  A programmed cummins tends to smoke more than a programmed duramax, at least the ones I have owned, ran across, and seen, and this is "in general".

Yes, I agree onbadrubi. I noticed this morning that even with my dmax set on stock power level it blows a decent puff when ya get into it. Im kinda thinking something isn't right with my engine though. It got less milage than others, has had full injector replacement due to water in fuel, and the tranny doesnt feel like my 07 classic did.

I just did a 5" straight pipe MBRP on my LMM with a Quad on 70 hp and i'm very satisfied.. MPG jumped up about 4 and it pulls its self down the road alot better. It does not smoke unless i get into it and then it will blow a little.. But like onebadrubi said not like a dodge smoke..
Reason i went with the 5" is bc it sounds a bit deeper and gives it the throatier sound. If that makes sense..

You how you like the Quad? Does it let you adj. for tire size and gearing? And what programs come on it?
That is the same reason I want the 5"
