Ok I have a 08 Polaris Sportsman 800 efi , and the battery will not charge while im riding , after I ride for a while the battery light will come on and the four wheeler will die soon after , I have the polaris book on it and I have ran all the test it says to run but Im not surr if it would be the stator or the regulator , what is the common charging problem on these newer model polaris ??

the way to find out if it is the regulator or the alternater is by doing this. with the engine off and the key of check the voltage at the battery. the voltage should be between 11.95-12.5 volts. if the voltage is not at that range you either need to charge the battery or replace. if the voltage is in range the next thing is to start the atv and let it run for about a minute or so. then check the voltage at the battery. the voltage should be at what it was with the engine of or no more than 14.5 volts. if at idle it is at 12.01 to 12.5 volts then rev it up slowly to about 1500 to 2000 rpm and the voltage should come up above battery voltage. if it does not come up or stays at battery voltage then you alternator is bad. if it goes above 14.5 volts then your regulator is bad. hope this helps.
