WELL WILL IT STOP THE BELT FROM SLIPPING ON THE COMMANDER.I JUST ORDER A CVTECH BUT,I WANT WHAT IS BEST.

Brookslee, we didn't slip a belt once in all the testing we did and we did some serious testing.  I can't speak to the CVTech but I can tell you that the QSC primary conversion is night and day over stock.  Adam is still working on R&D to make sure that there will not be any issues once its released.

Re:CHECK IT OUT!!! FOR REAL THIS TIME!!! 2011/02/03 13:18:08 (permalink)
when i first learned of this conversion i questioned Adam @ QSC about how they were going to keep the belt from slipping under a load since this clutch has a smaller one way bearing diameter like the CVtech clutch. with these smaller one-way bearing diameters, the belt will drop so low in the primary that the belt will run loose since the secondary can not close up enough to properly tension the belt. that is why i am machining the secondary clutches in order to get the secondary to squeeze up more to get the belt as tight as possible. without the secondary machining to get the belt tighter, or an STM secondary with no shims, the belt will be loose in the primary at idle and will act just like a kawasaki teryx clutch setup which leaves the belt loose at idle, and will eventually lead to blown belts. sure it gives a hard hit off the line, just like the teryx, but with the belt loose at idle, leads to premature belt wear. i told adam of this and it appeared that he knew about the loose belt syndrome and said he would have something corrected before he released the clutch.  i dont know of any other way other than machining the secondary to allow it to close up more. this clutch setup that he is putting on these machines, if driven correctly,  will give great gains for racing. just like the CVtech will. but if not driven correctly, will burn belts within 5 miles of installation. the belt being loose just like the teryx needs to be learned to driven correctly. for someone racing wide open from the start probably wont have any problems. someone trail riding, will have a fun time trying to keep belts on it due to the engines power and the belt deflection. without machining the secondary, i forsee alot of blown belts unless something else is figured out.

also adam and the other supporters will quickly say how this new setup has a smaller one-way bearing diameter, and will give even more low end than the CVtech. i however disagree. with the secondary left stock, the secondary will max out and only let the secondary close up and get the belt about 1/4" over the top of the secondary. regardless of how small the one way bearing is, you wont gain any more low end due to the belt being loose.

AirDam, Thanks for your concerns about what we are doing, but we have this under control. For the few that already know, there has not been any belt issues. Been testing this clutch for a long time.   The details of this clutch will become known when it is ready.

It will be just fine, were not just doing this for racers, there is only a few of those when compared to the general ATV riding public, Most of these questions will make better sense once we release it.

Poopman - I Adam wants to start shipping them as soon as possible, but he is not going to release them untill he is 100% satisfied with the porduct.  I know he mentioned taking pre-orders, so you might want to give him a call and see if pre orders have started.

OK...Cool
What about top speed?  Will this clutch give the ability for more top stop speed than the stock clutch?  How would top speed compare to say a Comet or an STM?  I know speed is limitted by the stock ECU, but if a speed limitter was not an issue?

if he is using the clutch he told me he was using, it is actually a taste smaller diameter than the stock clutch. so i dont forsee any top speed gains. it is the same diameter as the comet and should yield the same gains as a comet since they are basically the same design, other than this new clutch he is using has a one-way bearing. i would think 40mph in low and 78-80 in high respectively at 8100RPM.

Re:CHECK IT OUT!!! FOR REAL THIS TIME!!! 2011/02/04 15:06:03 (permalink)
This QSC primary clutch conversion is being offered (when released) as a factory replacement for the Can-Am’s. It is very efficient with its up to date roller technology, which in turn, will transfer more power to the wheels. We are not trying to break any speed records here, just a reliable replacement that turns out huge bottom end, mid range, and still produces strong acceleration after 40 mph. In our opinion, anything above 80 mph is just not applicable for the average rider. Below 80mph this clutch will produce huge bottom end gains, very fast back shifts, and hard acceleration to top speed. For the average trail rider, a great dependable clutch for low rpm cruising “fuel economy”, and the mud rider/racer will get super strong bottom end with a rigid clutch fully capable of handling high horsepower engines, even the big V- Twins. We tried to cover all the bases for everyone that likes riding under 80mph.

During testing it would turn 30's no problem on a commander, and 32's no problem on an 08 renegade. also 31's on an 07 outlander 800 2wd,4wd, didn't make a difference..... no belt slipping problems. With the the commander we did some 4wd launches with 30's on it in some freshly tilled heavy sandy loam soil and it would just light up all 4 tires and take off hard.

More testing is being done this weekend.  You can call Adam S. and put your name on the list to be one of the first to get one when they are released.  I spoke with Adam yesterday, and he is hard at work getting everything perfect before the release.
