AR15

Okay I'm getting serious about buying an AR. I am on a TIGHT budget. Looking into a Diamondback. Only reviews I can find are 3-4 years old, but my local shop usually keeps some around and they are picky about quality they put on the shelves.

I'm stuck between 5.56 and 300 blackout. Eventually I want both but really need to get the ball rolling on getting one, getting it set up, and beginning to stock up. What are yalls thoughts?

On last question is optics. When i get the 5.56 I want it more of a tactical set up. So I'm thinking short range optic of some sort but I believe iron sights are a MUST with it. Thoughts?

Here's what I'm looking at. Exact model for either caliber unless we dig up something more better.

Remember, pretty tight budget!

I personally had a Bushmaster that I threw plenty of lead through with no issues. I'd still have it but some a holes figured they needed my guns worse than me. So I have bought another which is a Rock Rivers Arms. It came built with everything I wanted except for the optics. My Bushmaster was a $550 gun and the RRA was a $1200. Now the Bushmaster I put probably another $200 changing stocks and what not. Then another $370 for and eotech optics. I have put the eotech with magnifier on my RRA. At the end of the day spend what you are comfortable with. An AR can always be upgraded later, buy plenty of mags, try not to get corrosive ammo cause it's cheap. Make sure to get the AR that's chambered for .223 and 5.56. I'd also get the .458 socom before the 300 blackout. The 458 is a door buster from hêll!!! My next big boy gun will be a .338 Lapua, I want to reach out and touch someone!!!! Remember good optics aren't cheap.

They say Diamondbacks are so cheap because they do all the machining in house, don't send it off to 3rd party.
I'm not a range guy, usually if I'm shooting, I'm shooting at something I want to kill. So this thing won't get shot hardly at all.

Really just need to know about a more tactical optic that would still let me use iron sights.
I just don't really know much about these things.

You keep trying to get me to buy a 458! You're gonna be responsible if I did and that thing knocked me out of the deer stand!!

Look at PSA (Palmetto State Armory)

Don't get a 300 BLK unless you plan on getting a suppressor.  Useless cartridge for anything other than shooting suppressed.

If you're really on a tight budget, pick up an Anderson Arms stripped lower for $40-50, and buy a kit for the rest.  The lower is the "gun" and the rest are just parts that you can order online.  You will have to get the stripped lower from a dealer or find a private seller with one.  The lower is legally considered the gun (like the frame on most guns) so that's the only part that you can't order online.

Top ends come already assembled and headspaced, so they just pin in place.

Lower assemblies are like legos for adults.  https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/Build-It-Yourself/4/

Cool. Remember good optics will cost nearly as much or more than the gun itself.
