800 melting plastic fix from Polaris

I'm not sure if its been mentioned but Polaris has released a shield kit for helping with the melting issues on the Sportsman 800. Its listed for purchase on ebay at.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/POLARIS-SPORTSMAN-400-450-500-600-700-800-EXHAUST-FIX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43978QQihZ017QQitemZ270223471996QQtcZphoto

In the ad they mention an updated calibration for all 2005-2007 Sportsman 800 EFI engines that decreases exhaust gas temperatures (EGTS).

I already had the shield kit installed under warranty last fall but I'm not sure if the calibration was done on my atv.  Does anyone know how this calibration is performed? Does this change or affect performance?

Funny thing is I just got my 2007 800 Steatlh exchaust changed with the new heat shields and new design, mine was starting to break already and they noticed it so Polaris is wrranting it when and if it goes. So why buy it. My machine seems to be quieter also.

I think mine rattles a little bit.  I've been hearing a slight raddle, and didn't know where it was coming from.  That makes sence though...I'll check my shield.  And yes, my right calf area gets friggin' hot!  I thought it was gonna burn my leg through my rubber boots!  No melted plastic as of yet though!

I don't have any melting issues, but I do have the rattle and scorching temps on my right calf also.
So what's this calibration that needs to be done to correct the exhaust gas temps? Is this something only the dealer can do?  And how much heat do these shields dissipate?

Haha!  Well since I don't have any melting plastics going on, and I deal with the temps by putting my foot up on the fender or taking a dip in water, I'll just leave things alone down there. It aint really broken, so why fix it?

What is the EFI adjustment? But ya they changed the whole exhaust system front to back, jus the pipe, not the cans. So I don't know anymore, just I have new exhaust and new heat shields too.

Don't waste your time and $$ on the header wrap.  Mine lasted only a couple of rides before it started to fall apart from the mud and water.

Ok good luck with it. I don't want to sound sceptical, but I haven't heard of anything yet that will hold up to what the pipes on our bikes go through.
