Sounds like the valves for sure, I have never heard a 20R, 22R, or 22RE that has not made the ticking noise in that vid. That one was a bit more pronounced then it should be but a valve adjustment would prob quiet it down a bit.

it could be the valves, but if it just started and got loud and didnt gradually get louder its the timing chain guides broke there only plastic and after awhile they fall apart. you need to take the front cover off behind the water pump and oil pump and most of the time the head or oil pan and check to see if the guides are broke because it will wear a hole in the cover and the oil will not go to the top of the head and thats bad.

When the chain wears the hole in the cover coolant gets in the oil, the chain wears a hole in a coolant passage not an oil passage. If you want to check that, pull the valve cover off and look at the drivers side of the timing chain to see if it has too much slack in it. That means the guides are broken as said.

yea they have a small tick to them but its not that noticable. if its loud enough to hear with the hood closed then i would look into it. mine with the hood closed was quite. the 22re are not cheap to rebuild i had almost $700 in mine and i did everything except the boring, and if you buy one its $1600 and over. so if you can catch somthing early it will save some money

Yea they are not the cheapest thing to rebuild, but how often do you have to rebuild one! lol They are an EXTREMELY tough motor, I've seen my share of them get beat to heck and come back swinging for more over and over and over again lol.

toyota's are going to tap a little i have had several of them if it is a new rebuilt motor and you adjusted the valves and its still ticking you need to pull the valve cover and adjust them again it could be that the valves are still settling. and if it continues to have slack in the valves after a couple times of adjusting them then you got a bad head. i had this same problem before replaced the head and it was fine. but before you replace the head do like what was said and check the timing chain toyotas are bad about getting slack in them..

Injectors aren't that loud, they just make a slight clicking noise. The noise in that vid that you posted is the valves, no ifs ands or buts about it. I am a tech at a Chevy/Toyota dealership, have heard a lot of 22r motors, they all tap a little. Nothing to worry about unless its really loud with the hood closed. If you are worried about the timing chain, pull the valve cover off and inspect it, that will also give you the opportunity to check the valve lash to make sure none of them are too loose.

the valves maybe shot then, cause we adjusted them the rite way, its not to to loud of a tick, you can only hear it while its idleing, but u can hear it with the hood closed a lil bit, but i got an exhaust leak on it i gotta fix, so after that i can really tell how loud it is, but it sounds ecactaly like the one in the vid
