2013 midsize ranger 800 questions

Has anyone purchased one yet? Please give us a little review if you have.
I know about the 500 midsize ranger and it is very impressive/reliable which makes me very interested in the 800.
My main question is do the 800 midsize rangers retain the "old style" axles like the 500 does?
I also have friends that ride the fullsize rangers and the rzrs and the new Polaris axles stink to put it nicely. So before I make a purchase I need to know if axle upgrades are a must or not.

Well I am concerned that the 800 will have the junk axles because the 500 is 56" wide and the 800 is 58" wide which probably means it has the a-arms and axles from the fullsize ranger which would mean a person that mud rides would need to budget for axles at time of purchase if they mud ride.
I have seen the new rangers and rzrs on mud tires snap axles without even getting crazy on them. If a bracket lift is added the stock axles will barely get you off the trailer without breaking except the 500 ranger. The 500 has the old axles and one rides in our group on forward a arms and bracket lift with 31's and has been on the stock axles almost a year now. I love his setup and it turns them fine I would just think the extra power of the 800 would be nice if I could still build it like his cheap.

my local dealer didnt even order any 800 in the mid size size since the large 800 xp is not but alittle over 500$ more and after you finance the payments arent that much more. He did recieve a sunset red with eps 900 ranger today...bad **** the way the roof and windhsield all interchange so you can basically build a cab system over time and buy everything piece by piece

Sold it all! Saving for a 900 ranger xp

yeah the price may not be much different but the capability of the machine is bettter. is narrower then the 800 for ease of trailing it, the 800 in the midsize frame will more then likely outrun the full size ranger. theres lots of benefits of the 800 in the midsize frame

I am sure in the midsize frame it will outrun the fullsize. I also think the midsize will give the rzr a good run because there is only a 60 lb weight difference.
The midsize has plenty of advantages over the fullsize for mud riders and trail guys like myself that dont need a full blown utility but do not like the size of the bed on the rzr.

Thats what I needed to hear. Just didn't want to have to buy axles or a big lift right at the time of purchase.

thats not true at all - we have been running stock axles that had ev springs (they give about a 1" lift) and a 2" lift (3" total lift) 29.5 S/W outlaws, a clutch kit and loaded down with a LARGE cooler, and 4 adults and we follow the group anywhere and we have yet to have an axle problem. the axles in the midsize are stout. the only reason one might break one is the stupid foot. i know several guys that run 30's and have yet to have a problem. the only problem with the midsize is the seat gets real hot between water dunkings.

I'm not hating on the midsize, there nice machines and pretty stoute. I've just seen what a lift and OL2's will do. I even considered buying one for myself but just bought another bike instead.

Common sense tells me they will put the smaller axles in it. They put the smaller axles in the RZR "S" and the Ranger 800XP's to act as a "fuse" (for lack of a better word)...if the Midsize 800 has the same motor then I'd bet it will have the twigs for axles also (just me speculating). We know something is different between the 800 and 500 (due to the different widths).

500 midsize axles look pretty stout though.

i dont know bj, either you are alot harder on the ranger then you think, or you got a lemon cause you have had serious catastrophic failure on that bike. both front axles and a front diff in one hole, charging system failure, 4wd not working. oh and i just seen your pic from red creek with your bike laying on its side lmao

i was a lil harder on it  at redcreek and it held up. guess all the weak links are gone for now. i was easy on it when it dod break the axles. and the regulator shouldn't have gone out so soon. and for the deuce you had to be there to see why i broke the axle on it. front bumper in the sand and 4wd quit working after it buried down.

The 800 being wider than the 500 may not be the suspension it could be a slightly wider frame for the motor which would also add a little stability.
Just speculation because I have not seen one or compared it next to a 500 like I plan to do very soon.
As for the 500 axles, I have seen them first hand spin 31 laws in the thick stuff with bracket lifts and forward a-arms and never click or snap. Now like any bike out there you could snap them with stock tires if get crazy. So compared to the new style ranger and rzr axles they are ALOT stronger. I have seen a 2 week old ranger 800 on stock tires snap both front axles in the first mud hole he hit. He pulled into the hole and the left front snapped then while trying to back out the right front snapped. So as a mud rider I know that if I was buying a rzr or fullsize ranger I would upgrade the axles at time of purchase.

I never thought about the frame being wider....makes sense. I'll be taking mine on its second hard ride tomorrow evening. It performed flawlessly last weekend.....I was very impressed with how it performed. The 500 pulls that ranger around very well.....that 800 will be giving the rzr a run for its money (at least in a straight line race).

Yea I will be visiting Rock Powersports this week to look at the mid-size rangers and the rzr. I am still on the fence as to what model I want for sure. I will have my grizzly for the big mud holes but I want a sxs for my general riding. I like the idea of having room for a big cooler, sound system, lights, etc..
Maybe my age is finally catching up with me and the thought of a seat and steering wheel on the long rides appeals more than handle bars and getting jerked around, lol.

I'd be willing to bet the 800 midsized is detuned somehow. If not I can see a lot of lawsuits coming polaris's way

the 500 goes that fast??? the specs always said they only went 44mph thats why i decided not to buy a 500 & got a ac that i hated & then blew up the motor on! will have to look @ 500 a little harder then!

I am picking up my 500 Friday, I'll let you know the top speed, 52 would be nice, but I'd be surprised to see 32hp get it up that high.

i sold a fullsize 800 and got a midsize 500, The way i look at it is the midsize is more trail friendly due to width, the 500 motor will be easier to work on or rebuild than the 800 twin,

Like said earlier on in this post the 500 does great but the 800 mite beat it in a drag race, but who buys a utility sxs for that?
