It is a load for sure but its not out of the capable towing range of that truck.  Sadly you probably dont even have 3.73 gears so it might feel luggish.  If the trailer has brakes I would attempt it.

Things to try/look out for
-Load the lightest possible weight on the tongue, heaviest and equipment on trailer axles
- Accelerate without getting into OD untill you are able to maintain that speed, you dont want your transmission constantly locking/unlocking the torque converter and going into OD, this will lead to excess heat in the transmission.
- constantly watch tranny temp
- truck will like to pull around 2200-2500 rpms
-check all tire pressures, you can add some to the rear tires to stiffen them up.  Toyo's have a high air pressure rating which will be good for this.  also check trailer tire pressure and make sure those are correct to what the tire says.

I have a 16' foot trailer and I carry 4 on mine.  Like everyone said it is a load and watch what you are doing but it really looks cool behind my 4 door jeep rubicon.

z71's come standard with 3.73 gears... its part of the package. you can special order them with a different ratio, but most dont. you should be plenty fine. if you have tow/hual mode, use it. also, keep it out of overdrive when driving through town or slower than 55mph... hauling a heavy load while the tranny is in overdrive will cuase alot of heat which is bad for transmissions.

Like many have mentioned.. Watch your parameters.. It is a load but you will be fine. I used to pull 4 with my Z on 35s and it was a load. Now i stepped up to a Duramax and glad i did!

Z71s do NOT come stnadard with 3.73s...i have seen plenty with 3.42s which is GM gear of choice for some reason! Just dont pass up a gas station and take it easy and you should be fine.  May even run with it in 3rd gear depending on what rear you have.

You will be fine. My father truck has towed just like that since new. 2001 sierra 1500 5.3. We vacation 7 hours away, that truck has made many many trips. He has over 80k miles on it, and its not his dailey driver, probably half those miles are towing between 5-6k pounds. Like said above, tow haul, take it easy, and watch your temps, specifically your tranny temp. Try to keep your momentum and avoid stopping and starting. You will be fine.

I have an 08 lowered on 24's. I pulled my 28' travel trailor with a utility trailor behind it with my Teryx on it all the way to the dunes last year. Did fine. Put the edge programmer on it and made the same trip, did even better. So to answer your question, you will be ok.

lol yeah when i bought my 06 Z71 every Z71 on the lot had 3:42s in it and the other dealer i had been to early in the week was the same way 15 or so Z71s and every one with 3:42s, stupid IMO but they where doing it for the MPG numbers.

Re:2007 chevy towing 5 atvs 5 hours to mud nats? - Wednesday, March 10, 2010 9:16 PM ( #11 )
the GU6 code (3.42 gears) were used again starting in 03 or 05 for fuel mileage savings.  same time rear dums were swapped in.

99-02 Z71's come with the GT4 (3.73's) and will pull a little better but have less HP than the newer models.

seems like a stock truck with 3.42's and 33's isnt gonna like any load at all but if you have the towint package with trans cooler, that will help limit the amount of damage being done to your trans.  Id use tow/haul on flat surfaces and manually shift to 3rd when a hill approaches.

with that many quads on the trailer he will have to use 3rd all the way for sure.
with mine 2 quads is the limit and a light weight trailer if i load 3 quads mine wont stay in overdrive if i want it to unless its flat ground or down hill...lol
3;42 just dont pull well.

5 wheelers would weigh tops 5k plus your trailer so I would say you should be fine w/5.3. My Baja weighs 6500ish (loaded up and on trailer) and my 5.4 doesnt mind...

Torque management an anti abuse software for the trans.

in your glovebox...  GU6 = 3.42  /  GT4 = 3.73

Not smart at all, When the rubicon only has a 3500 # towing. Jeep's arnt meant for towing.

I tow my 7500lb travel trailer with mine. I have 3:42 gears and 33's also. I do have a cold air intake, programe PCM, dual exhaust, big trans cooler etc..... I put it in 3 rd and stay there. At about 2500 RPMS th truck is happy. Below that and it really struggles. Furthest I have towed it about 200 miles. I also tow my 30 flatbed with my Ranger crew (2500 lb pig lol) and two full size ATVs with less effort.
So what I am saying is you will be fine if you use 3rd and take it easy.
