1998 Arctic Cat 300 4x4

My dad just bought a used Cat for $500 that needs the carb cleaned, tires and brakes.  Easy enough to fix.  Here is the question, I have NEVER messed with AC bikes.  Are these tough bikes?  Any known issues?  Thanks guys!

easiest in the world to work on.  Issues?  The carb on a 300.  Seems like you are always cleaning them out.  Tough bike though.  I'm putting a starter clutch in one right now.

The carb is the problem on this one.  I will be picking it up tonight to see what all I have to do to get it back in top shape.  [;)]

If I'm not mistaken these have the same motors as the 300 Suzuki king quads and are very similar bikes. Do these bikes also have the differential lock and super low?

I part bikes out on the side and have between 40-50 bikes on average. Feel free to ask me about parts if you need something.

There is an easy free mod to make the front diff lock on the older 300's. Do a search on here.

    WC

AC 05/500 extra lighting front and back, modded muffler, 2" snorkel, purple epi clutch springs, carb slide mod, k&N, heated grips, gun racks, racks and bumper line-xed, WYO shock bushings, temp gauge, 27" Outlaws on T7's
rad soon to be re located.

OK his looks no where near that good lol.  But I ain't started yet either[;)].  OK a few more questions...where can I get parts like a seat and the mug guards? I have not called my local stealership yet, but I wonder about aftermarket. I have found a few places with engine and mechanical parts..but I need some plastic...the small mudflap on the back to be exact, and his seat is pretty rough.[:-]

Cleaned out the carb (man it was BAD) and it fired right up.  Running great, just need to adjust the idle a little. Also the brakes were none existent, found a caliper leaking fluid.  Removed it and the brakes were gone and the piston in the caliper is what was rubbing the rotor!  The piston had came out past the rubber O ring and was leaking.  Took it off and cleaned it out, put in new brakes and it's working fine.  So the only thing left it cosmetics.  Someone hit something with it and has done some damage to the front grill, I found the whole front end NEW for $89.  Can't wait to get it done for him.[:D]

some pics of the work in progress would be awesome. and the krylon fusion is an option but I have come to find etching primer and good quality spray paint to be better. just my opinion. But keep us posted and good luck. Sounds like you have had some of that already.

Can't wait to see some pics those bikes were mini tanks just like the zuki 300's and with that super low gearing were darn tough to stop in almost any hole.  Keep us posted sounds like it is coming along good.

I will get some pics of it tomorrow.  It's rough on cosmetics but runs like a sewing machine! Dad wants to ride it a while to make sure it is going to hold up before he drops any money on the body[&o]  With the engine setting so far back is this thing light on the front end climbing hills?  I have only had it around the house so far.

Cleaned carb/rebuilt brake caliper/fixed front end/new brakes/adjusted the foot brake and cleaned the rear brakes/drained fuel tank and put in new fuel/....it run's PERFECT!  I can't believe how well it is running and it rides great. My dad is tickeled with it.  Only thing is getting used to the heel/toe shifter!

My old 300 2x4 would run with most 4x4s.  It was LIGHT.  Having that weight on the rear of the bike definately helped with traction.  And the integrated IRS was a wierd touch on the bikes.
